I really didn't expect that in my lifetime, Comrade Tong Jingtan, an old comrade-in-arms who had lost contact with me for almost 60 years, would talk on the phone at noon on the second day of the Lunar New Year!

At the end of August 1950, due to the needs of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, our 112th Division medical training team graduated ahead of schedule, and I was assigned to the 3rd Battalion of the 336th Regiment as a hygienist. At that time, I didn't understand anything as a recruit, and the veteran Comrade Tong Jingtan was an old comrade who had participated in the Liberation War, and when I was assigned to the health center, Doctor Meng asked Tong Jingtan to take me, and Comrade Tong Jingtan was very patient with me, and he took the trouble to help and teach me wherever I didn't understand. Under the education of this mentor, I quickly mastered the knowledge of rescue on the battlefield and the precautions on the battlefield. With his help and education, during the three-year War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, it can be said that they worked side by side from beginning to end to accomplish various combat missions.

Wujia Mountain Orientation

Among them, special mention is the battle of Wujiashan on the south bank of the Han River, the fourth battle around the Spring Festival in 1951. The battle was very hard, because the battle line was too long and the Han River was blocked by natural dangers, and the logistical supply was very difficult, and our health center had been out of food for several days, and everyone was already very hungry. At this time, the Meng dispenser got a little raw corn particles from somewhere, because the raw corn particles were too hard to eat raw, so the Meng dispenser asked me and Comrade Tong Jingtan to find a way to cook these corn particles and eat them. Comrade Tong Jingtan and I took the corn kernels to an independent hut halfway up the mountain in a ravine not far from our camp clinic. The owner of the house has fled, the two of us found a little firewood nearby, just poured the corn particles into the pot, the fire was just lit, two tanks suddenly drove at the mouth of the ravine, and opened fire on this hut, I haven't reacted, Comrade Tong Jingtan took my hand and ran outside, we just ran out of this hut not far away, this hut was completely destroyed by the enemy's tank shells, if it wasn't for Tong Jingtan to pull me out, I may have been reimbursed with this hut. It's a pity that all our corn kernels were reimbursed, and Comrade Tong Jingtan and I regretted it for a long time.

At around 12 noon on the second day of junior high school, Tong Jingtan's son, Tong Jun, called and said that his father was in the hospital, and he was visiting his father in the hospital room, and his father wanted to talk to me on the phone. When I picked up the phone and asked if he remembered me, he replied, "Yes, yes!" and asked me where I was.

I told him, "I'm in Wuhan. ”

He said, "It would be nice if you were in Changchun." ”

I said, "If you were in Changchun, I would definitely visit you." ”

Since he was too sick to talk much, I told him to rest well and wish him a speedy recovery.

This time, I was fortunate to have a phone call and exchange greetings with my close comrade-in-arms Tong Jingtan, who I had lost contact with for many years during my lifetime, which can be said to be the happiest thing for me!
