Have you ever eaten too fast, and if you are not careful, you will inhale air into your body, and you can't help but "uh" and "uh", this is hiccups, commonly known as "hiccups", which is mainly manifested as qi reversal and upward rush, belching in the throat, short and frequent, unable to control itself, hiccups or low or high, sparse or dense, intermittent time is uncertain, sometimes lasts for a long time, and even affects speech, eating, etc., which is equivalent to diaphragm spasm in Western medicine.

Normal people have a thin layer of muscles between the chest cavity and the abdominal cavity, called the "diaphragm", which separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity and plays the role of separating and protecting the thoracic and abdominal organs. When eating too quickly or inhaling cold air, the autonomic nerves are stimulated, causing the diaphragm to contract suddenly, causing a rapid inhalation and a "hiccups" sound. Hiccups are a physiological phenomenon that generally resolves on their own, and should be treated if there are persistent hiccups or intermittent episodes that affect work and life.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that hiccups are caused by "stomach qi does not fall", so the treatment mostly adopts the method of regulating stomach qi and reducing inversion and stopping hiccups. During treatment, they are mostly divided into two categories: the empirical evidence is mostly due to the external attack of cold qi, food stagnation and fire, and the deficiency syndrome is mostly due to spleen and kidney deficiency and cold or kidney qi failure.

Differentiation of syndrome plus and minus: if the empirical evidence is mostly accompanied by loud hiccups, and the cold is treated, the treatment is to disperse the cold in the warmth, and the bladder meridians on both sides of the back are rubbed, and the hot ones are treated with diarrhoea and heat, and the inner courtyard acupoints are rubbed;

Hiccups do not heal for a long time, and the underlying disease needs to be treated

Hiccups can occur alone or in other disease processes. It should be clear whether it is a physiological or pathological phenomenon, and if it is caused by other diseases, massage therapy can relieve symptoms, but the underlying disease should be treated aggressively. The above methods can be self-massaged. When operating, the technique should be uniform and soft, remember to be simple and rude, and be in a hurry. When hiccups occur, you can take deep breaths or listen to music to distract you, which can also help relieve symptoms.

The above is for reference only, please adjust under the guidance of a physician.
