Also participating in AMC10/12?
If students have excellent math skills, they can take AMC10 and AMC12 at the same time. As long as you meet the promotion criteria in any of these competitions, you can participate in AIME.
The difference between the A/B exam time of AMC10 and AMC12 is about a week, and there is no official limit on the number of student exams, so students can choose to take AMC10A+AMC12B or AMC12A+AMC10B according to their actual situation.
The 2024 AMC10/12 exam time has not yet been announced, take the 2023 exam time as an example:
AMC10/12A: November 9, 2023, 17:00-18:15
AMC10/12B: November 15, 2023, 17:00-18:15
The AMC10/12 test consists of 25 multiple-choice questions, 75 minutes, 6 points for one question, 1.5 points for unanswered, no deduction for incorrect answers, and a full score of 150 points.
AMC10/12 papers A and B are awarded separately and are generally almost the same difficulty, with the main difference being the exam time.
Of course, taking AMC10 and 12 at the same time is not suitable for all students, especially students around grade 10, if the schedule of coursework is not tight, it is better to make a steady transition from AMC10 to AMC12, or prepare for AMC10 and aim for AIME.
Grade 11 students did not get into AMC10, so they should aim to advance to AIME in preparation for AMC12, and make use of this key time point before application as much as possible to help them apply.

Difference between AMC10 and AMC12:
There are obvious differences between AMC10 and AMC12 in terms of participants, test content and difficulty.
In terms of exam content, AMC10 mainly covers the content of junior high school and senior one mathematics courses, including elementary algebra, basic geometry (such as the Pythagorean theorem, area-volume formula, etc.), elementary number theory and probability problems, and it does not involve trigonometric functions, advanced algebra and advanced geometry knowledge.
AMC12 basically covers the entire high school mathematics curriculum, including the content of AMC10 examination, and adds modules such as logarithms, complex numbers, trigonometric functions, sine theorem, cosine theorem, and four-point concorcircle. Therefore, AMC12 is higher than AMC10 in terms of the scope and difficulty of knowledge points.

From the perspective of the overall difficulty of the competition, the difficulty of AMC10 is equivalent to that of the domestic junior high school league, and the difficulty is roughly the same, while AMC12 is close to the level of the high school mathematics league, and pays more attention to the examination of mathematical thinking ability.

AMC10 requires at least 95 points to advance to AIME, and AMC12 requires at least 85 points to advance to AIME.

AMC12 examines all the knowledge points of AMC10, so starting with AMC10 is also equivalent to reviewing AMC12.
The focus of the review varies depending on the topic:
Algebra:
Pay attention to the use of the combination of numbers and shapes in daily learning. Many questions use the idea of solving college entrance examination questions.
Number Theory/Permutations, Probability:
There are a lot of key points in number theory, if the foundation is weak, you can brush up on the previous number theory/permutations and combinations, and probability questions.
Geometry:
If you think that your geometry foundation is weak and the practice in the past questions is not enough, you can consider attaching geometry problems at the middle and high school levels in China.
Logarithmic/complex (AMC 12):
Master the formula for logarithms, pay attention to the logarithmic formula for complex numbers, and have some tips in common problems for Euler's formula.
After completing the basic content learning, it is necessary to test the learning of knowledge points through test question practice in time, in addition to consolidating the learning knowledge points in time, but also try to practice the actual connection between the knowledge points and the test questions, and be more flexible in the follow-up solution of test questions.
For special consolidation exercises, you need to leave more time to prepare for the content of key and difficult modules. For example, in the trigonometric function part, the amount of questions is large, and there are many types of test questions, which are also mixed with other knowledge points.
The overall answering time of AMC is very tight, and it is necessary to control the time purposefully in the later sprint preparation stage, complete a complete set of test papers, adjust the answering time, and reasonably plan and allocate the answering time of different test questions.
