Children are indispensable agents of the community. How to better listen to their voices and create a beautiful environment for them to grow up? Dinghai Road Street has been exploring new ways and new paths.
A few days ago, Dinghai Road Sub-district joined hands with the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University, Pingliang Road No. 3 Primary School, and Yangpu Binjiang Experimental Primary School affiliated to Shanghai Normal University to jointly carry out a series of activities of "Child Governance" for community partners. From the perspectives of children's deliberations and community renewal, the event started a journey of community micro-transformation, cultivating primary school students' understanding of the community in practice, and guiding everyone to contribute to a better home.
Get out of the school and learn about all aspects of "home".
Dressed in colorful vests, they shuttled through the Zihua Xinyuan community to learn about the various knowledge behind the greening of the community...... "Child Governance" series of "Walking with Nature" activities, so that children can further experience the world outside the classroom.
"Fruit" teachers from the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University guided the children to observe nature with their eyes, touch nature with their little hands, and learn about the rich and diverse plants in the community. Later, they drew creative "business cards" for each plant with watercolor pens and hung them out to educate the residents about nature. "In order to attract uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters in the community to visit the green space, we also specially made a plant map display board!" said one child happily.
The reporter learned that before the event, the community learned about the "little masters" about their thoughts on community activities through small meetings, small exchange meetings and small suggestion boxes. In the end, the proposal to lead the children to understand the flowers and plants in the community and convey the concept of greening and environmental protection was recognized by everyone.
In order to allow children to better evaluate the built environment of the community and cultivate their sense of responsibility and enthusiasm for participation in the home, a few days ago, the "Children's Walk" activity of the "Child Governance" series was also held in the Zihua Xinyuan Community, inviting children to use the measurement knowledge learned in the school curriculum to scientifically measure the community infrastructure.
Under the guidance of volunteers, the children gathered at the residents' fitness trail to carefully measure their arm span, height and other physical data. Subsequently, they used their own body data to measure the infrastructure of the community. "We want the children to understand the various scales of the body, learn to apply measurement knowledge in real-life situations, and understand the principles behind the design of various scales. The relevant person in charge of the Dinghai Road Street Community Autonomous Office said. "This is how the fitness trail was measured, and I will use this way to measure other facilities in the community in the future!" said one child.
Come to the business district to convey the new trend of green and low-carbon
Recently, the Dinghai Road Sub-district Community Autonomous Office joined hands with Pingsan Primary School, Shangshi University Binjiang Real Elementary School, Baolong Xuhui Plaza, etc., to carry out a public welfare activity with the theme of "Spring 'Benefit' Dinghai and Protect the Earth Together". This is also an innovative practice of the tripartite linkage of "home, school and community".
On the day of the event, the students brought the school's aesthetic education class and the works of the science and technology innovation club to the scene, integrating fun and popular science elements, and worked with other community charity partners to interact with the audience. The small volunteers of the public aid community and the parent-child team of the Pingliang community of the Dinggang community took out "second-hand goods" such as dolls, stationery, and books, and arranged their respective stalls with a dazzling array of booths. The "stall owners" raised funds through charity sales, book exchanges, etc. In the end, the proceeds from the charity sale will be donated to the Givensea Community Charity Foundation to help build and govern the community.
At the scene, the representatives of the district people's congress also actively participated in the event. Combined with the reception of voters, they distributed the "Green and Low-Carbon Life" brochure to everyone, publicized the "Code of Conduct for Citizens' Ecological Environment" jointly issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and relevant departments, and listened to everyone's opinions and suggestions on community ecological construction and city appearance and environmental management, and guided the children to "hold big hands", starting from the small things around them such as choosing low-carbon travel, reasonably setting the temperature of air conditioning, and avoiding noise disturbance to neighbors, so as to practice the new trend of green life.

Rooted in the grassroots, so that children can share the right to speak in community building
"The public service facilities here are really beautiful, with children's stickers and slow-down signs, as well as hand-painted animals, which make the children look more clear and like ......," Ms. Wu, a resident, praised the first children's participatory community planning practice workshop created by Dinghai Road Street.
In recent years, Dinghai Road Street has focused on all-age shared community governance, through the creation of a "community partner" operation model, to create the "four small" brand characteristics of small managers, small reporters, small curators, and small public welfare people, and to promote the multi-directional development of families, schools and communities with the series of activities of "child governance", and to promote the "big results" of grassroots governance with the "small incision" of child-friendly community construction.
On April 27th, the "Child Governance" series of "Walking with Children in the Community" was held in Yangpu Binjiang Experimental Primary School affiliated to Shanghai Normal University. Members from the "One Meter Height to See the City" project team introduced the relevant knowledge of child-friendly streets and shared excellent cases of child-friendly streets for the "little councillors" present.
Under the guidance of volunteers, several "little councillors" went to the public aid residential area in groups to conduct a structured survey of four places with dense pedestrian and vehicular flows. They came up with a number of renovation ideas, including zoning, street decoration, etc. According to the renovation situation, the staff awarded different honors such as "Little Community Builder", "Little Street Planner" and "Little Garden Designer" to the "Little Councillors".
The reporter learned that the establishment of the "Little Council" provides a platform for children to participate in social activities and carry out deliberations and consultations. Here, they will have the opportunity to realize their "golden ideas" for community governance and contribute to the construction of grassroots governance in urban areas. It is reported that the street will also issue the "First Child Governance Rules of Procedure" to promote the concept of child-friendly governance in grassroots governance, share the right to speak in community construction with children, and create a good atmosphere for child-friendly communities.
There are people of all ages in the community, including children. In the next step, Dinghai Road Street will further deepen the brand building of the Children's Participatory Community Planning Practice Workshop, and attract multiple subjects to participate in it through the "community partners", so as to jointly create a new model of shared community governance for all ages. At the same time, the street will also empower the "future tense" of community governance with the "continuous tense" of children's participation, laying a good foundation for building an urban governance community where everyone participates, everyone is responsible, everyone contributes and everyone shares.
