【Source】Qing Zeng Guofan's "Portrait of the Sage": My view of the son of the elder is the "Historical Record", and the fable is also six or seven out of ten. Ban's Hong is lonely, and he doesn't catch the long-term problem. However, the classics of the world, the purpose of the six arts, the source of words, and the state of seclusion are all well prepared. How can you fight with your husband before you lose or lose before Mr. Yi, and you can be a self-pleasing person!

【Explanation】I look at the historical records written by the son, and the fables also account for six or seven percent. Ban Gu is far from Zichang in terms of talent and ambition, but he describes the rules of the world, the main purpose of the Six Classics, the origin of the text, and the affairs between heaven and man. How can this be compared with those who are short-sighted, who compete with each other for gains and losses in front of Mr. One, and who are docile and self-pleased?

【Sentence example】In ancient times, the great philosophers were lonely, ambitious, worried about the worries of the world, and happy about the world.

【Idiom Story】

Zeng Guofan, the word Disheng, a native of Xiangxiang, Hunan, was a jinshi during the Daoguang period. At the beginning of 1853 (the end of the second year of Xianfeng), he held a regimental training in Hunan as a servant of the ministry, and later expanded into the Hunan Army to suppress the Taiping Army.

In his early years, he followed Mei Zengliang in Beijing and corresponded with Zhu Qi, Wang Zheng, Wu Minshu and other figures of the Tongcheng School. Later, the Tongcheng faction was called upon to recruit talents. Wu Rulun, Zhang Yuzhao, Xue Fucheng, Li Shuchang and others all served as his staff and were known as disciples of Zengmen. He is the author of "Zeng Wenzhenggong Poetry Collection", "Portrait of the Sage", etc.

The Portrait of the Sage was written by Zeng Guofan in the ninth year of Xianfeng (1859), in which he selected 32 historical celebrities from thousands of years of brilliant historical celebrities to give the finishing touch to summarize his academic achievements, providing a convenient way for later scholars to study and read, and also played a role in exploring the source and diversion of Zhang Zhidong's "Bibliography Q&A".

Zeng Guofan inherited Yao Nai's literary theory of "righteousness, words, and evidence", and creatively proposed the four divisions of "virtue", "political affairs", "speech", and "literature", expressing his outstanding insight in trying to eliminate the dispute between the Han and Song dynasties. Zeng Guofan's "Portrait of the Sage" selects the historical Wen (Wang) Zhou (Gong) Kong (Qiu) Meng (Ke), Zuo (Qiu Ming) Zhuang (Zhou) Ma (Sima Qian) Ban (Gu), Ge (Zhuge Liang) Lu (Zhen) Fan (Zhongyan) Ma (Sima Guang), Zhou (Dunyi) Cheng (Hao, Yi) Zhu (Xi) Zhang (Zai), Han (Yu) Liu (Zongyuan) Ou (Yang Xiu) Zeng (Gong), Li (Bai) Du (Fu) Su (Shi) Huang (Tingjian), Xu (Shen) Zheng (Xuan) Du (You) Ma (Duanlin), Gu (Yanwu) Qin (Huitian) Yao (Nai) Wang (Nian Sun) and other 32 non-saints and sages, one by one, praised, prompted their academic contributions, and then imitated the Han Dynasty Wuliang Temple, The story of the deeds of the great man such as Lu Lingguang Hall was ordered to be painted by his son Zeng Jize and combined into one volume, which was thought to be the biography of Sven and hidden in the family school for the heirs to follow the law.

The main purpose of "The Portrait of the Sage" is twofold, one is to guide the children and grandchildren to learn the Jinliang, and the other is to teach the correct attitude of learning.
