Sun Weiliang's Yangshi Mountain House is quite famous in Shaoxing academic circles, and whenever someone sees him at an academic seminar, they are often impressed by his profound literary and historical background and rigorous academic attitude, but when they know his work, they will be a little unbelievable.
For more than 20 years, Sun Weiliang has insisted on sending gas during the day to earn money to support his family, and at night he reads and does research in his spare time. Along the way, although there are some bumps and stumbles, but also achieved a lot of gains.
From a book to an academic path
Sun Weiliang's academic path is quite legendary.
When he was in school, he was particularly fond of history and geography. At that time, teachers often asked everyone "what do students want to do when they grow up", and the answer was of course various, there were more scientists, doctors, teachers, or singers, artists, etc., and Sun Weiliang's ideal was to be a historian.
In January 1984, during the winter vacation of the third year of junior high school, Sun Weiliang went to visit Dayu Tomb and saw a pamphlet called "Shaoxing History", written by Chen Qiaoyi, published by Shanghai People's Publishing House in 1982, priced at 0.37 yuan. "When I saw the three words 'Chen Qiaoyi,' I was very excited, because it was written in the history textbook that Zhao Kuangyin, the grandfather of the Song Dynasty, mutinied in Chen Qiaoyi and founded the Song Dynasty." Chen Qiaoyi is a historical place name, a personal name that contains rich historical information, to write a book of local literature and history, and it is also shaoxing where I am located, which is very suitable for me to read, so I bought it back. Sun Weiliang's interest in history began with this "Shaoxing History", and until now, he still cherishes this book.
Unfortunately, after graduating from junior high school, Sun Weiliang did not continue to go to school, but went to work at a construction site in Shanghai, and in his spare time, he still insisted on reading literature and history books. In the early 1990s, when Sun Weiliang, who had returned to work in a machinery factory in Shaoxing, read the newspaper, he accidentally learned that Professor Chen Qiaoyi was his fellow Shaoxing and was teaching in the Geography Department of Hangzhou University. He quickly wrote a letter to the newspaper and learned of Chen Qiaoyi's home address.
Sun Weiliang still remembers that day, "On September 26, 1994, ten years after reading the "History of Shaoxing", I took advantage of the factory holiday and rode my bicycle to Visit Professor Chen in Hangzhou. Professor Chen did not blame me at all for this little fellow who dared to come to the door, but was very happy. When he knew I only had my first Chinese, he encouraged me to persevere. He said that the diploma is not the most important, the key is interest, as long as you continue to learn, you will definitely produce results in the future. When parting, Chen Qiaoyi gave Sun Weiliang a copy of the "Huiji Fang Zhi Integration".
In 1995, Sun Weiliang left the machinery factory, and since then he has been exchanging gas for people for a living, living a life of sending gas canisters during the day and studying literature and history at home at night.
As he read deeper, Sun Weiliang began to try to write, initially publishing some small articles of more than a thousand words in the local newspaper. In 2008, Sun Weiliang was invited to attend the International Symposium on Local Literature held in Xiaoshan, Zhejiang Province, and submitted the paper "Shaoxing < Yangshan Han Clan Genealogy > and Its Documentary Value", which was his first academic paper, with a total of more than 10,000 words, and received a lot of praise. Since then, he has devoted himself more to the study of knowledge in his spare time, published many papers, published several books, and was invited to participate in the compilation of local local chronicles, which can be described as fruitful.
Many people say that they do not understand, a gas, why should they carry out boring historical research? Sun Weiliang said that interest is the best teacher. "Gas is given to support the family, but people live, not just to eat and sleep, there must always be a hobby." I don't have any other hobbies, I just like to read books on literature and history. I used to think that 'learning the sea is endlessly arduous, and the book mountain has a road and a diligent path', but now I think back, if it was 'bitter', would I still insist on it for so many years? I think we should change 'bitterness' to 'pleasure'. Learning is a happy thing, and I feel that having books to read is a happy thing. ”
From mail order to online shopping, Yangshi Mountain House was built
In the early 1990s, Sun Weiliang went to the city's used book market every week to look for books, mostly books with the prefix "Shaoxing" in order to understand the history and culture of his hometown. Later, Shaoxing-related books could no longer meet his reading needs, and other literature and history books gradually increased.
Some literary and historical materials were relatively unpopular, and it was difficult to buy them in bookstores and book markets at that time, so Sun Weiliang subscribed to newspapers such as Guangming Daily, Book Collection, and Zhonghua Reading Newspaper, looked for book information in the newspaper, and then purchased the books he needed through the mail order department of the relevant publishing houses.
On August 28, 2004, Sun Weiliang saw the publication information of He Zhongli's "Historical Materials of Ancient Chinese History" in the "New Books and Newspapers of Ancient Books", and the title of the review article was "Historical Works with Both Theory and Practicality". Sun Liangwei quickly wrote to the publishing house to express his desire to buy, and soon, the publishing house replied through a postcard, informing the price of the book, postage and other information, and finally successfully purchased. Sun Weiliang benefited a lot from this book, and he once wrote an article to record this matter, saying: "In writing literary and historical articles, in addition to understanding the basic historical materials of ancient Chinese history, we must also learn how to find historical materials, identify historical materials, and use historical materials." I once 'nibbled' He Zhongli's "Historiography of Ancient Chinese History" and tasted a lot of sweetness. ”
But some books are not something that can be bought with money. Once, when Sun Weiliang was studying, he learned that Chen Qiaoyi had compiled a "Shaoxing Local Literature Examination Record", which was published by the Zhejiang People's Publishing House in 1983. This is a reference book on the local literature of Shaoxing written by Chen Qiaoyi for decades, which has a unique value for further study of Shaoxing. However, this book published in the early years is difficult to find in the market. Sun Weiliang came up with a magic method, he published a book notice in the "Shaoxing Evening News", hoping that some book friends would lend the book out to read. Soon after, Dr. Zhang Jianfang of Shaoxing Seventh Hospital contacted him and offered to lend him the book to read. In the following months, Sun Weiliang carefully "nibbled" the book, and when he returned the book to Dr. Zhang, Dr. Zhang was touched by his love of reading, and finally gave him the book.
In 2006, with the help of friends, Sun Weiliang learned to use a computer, and it was much more convenient to buy books. Since then, the family's collection of books has increased day by day, and today, there are more than 10,000 volumes. Sun Weiliang said that in terms of the scale of the collection and the quality of the collection, his collection of books is estimated to be comparable to the local literature room of the county-level library, "My collection is mainly literature and history books, and there are many reference books on Chinese historical research, such as "Outline of the General Catalogue of Chinese Local History", "Shaoxing Series", "Huanyu Tongzhi", "Daming Yi Tongzhi", "Great Qing Tongzhi", "General Catalogue of Chinese National Genealogy", "Outline of Genealogy of Shanghai Library Collection", "Outline of Zhejiang Genealogy General Catalogue", "General History of China's Imperial Examination System", "Index of Biographical Materials of Ming Dynasty", "General Catalogue of Dengke in the Ming Dynasty" wait. ”
Sun Weiliang's study, originally called "Yiranju", was self-satisfied, which was also the name he gave to his daughter. In 2002, he asked Professor Chen Qiaoyi to write a new title of the book, Yangshi Mountain House. "I live near Yangshan and am also studying Yangshan. Yangshan in the Song Dynasty's local chronicle "Jiatai Hui Zhi" called Yangshi Mountain, Qing Dynasty, the suffix of the name of the book has "mountain house", why not name it 'Yangshi Mountain House'? In April 2014, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television selected the first national "Home of Books", and Sun Weiliang was impressively listed, and since then, the name of "Yangshi Mountain House" has become more prosperous.
A book with Professor Lai Xinxia
On February 3, 2007, Sun Weiliang's small courtyard welcomed two special guests, an 85-year-old professor from Nankai University, lai Xinxia and his wife. Lai Xinxia is a famous Historian of China, who has made great achievements in philology, library science, bibliography, Fang Zhixue, and the history of bibliography, and has authored works such as "Classical Bibliography", "Introduction to Fang Zhixue", "History of Ancient Chinese Book Undertakings" and "History of Modern Chinese Book Undertakings", which have been praised by scholars as "Three Vertical and Horizontal Studies".
On this day, Sun Weiliang painstakingly constructed the "Coming to The New Summer People's Reading Room" to open the museum, the long plaque hanging outside the door was inscribed by the professor, and the study hall was neatly arranged to teach the writings, and most of them were donated by Lai Xinxia himself.
Sun Weiliang and Lai Xinxia are related to books. "My eldest uncle Tang Shiquan lived in Changhetou, and I entrusted him to buy the "Chronicle of Changhe Town", and after reading it, I roughly knew the academic achievements of Professor Lai Xinxia of Nankai University. Zhen Zhi specially lists "Writings in Lai Xinxia", involving 20 kinds of bibliographies such as history, Fang Zhixue, and library and philology, which is exactly the subject knowledge I crave. In the years that followed, I concentrated on studying and paying attention to Mr. Lai's writings. The more I read Mr. Lai's writings, the more I felt like I had entered the treasure mountain and benefited greatly, so I decided to try my best to collect all of Mr. Lai's writings. Shangcheng went to the old book stall on the pedestrian street, read the information of the "Book Collection Newspaper" and gave it away by friends; after learning the computer, the keyword 'come to the new summer' was entered into the Confucius old book network, which was a must-do homework every night. Through many efforts, the number of collected works has increased, and some precious mimeographs have gradually entered the collection. ”
Sun Weiliang looked back on the past and lamented that it was not easy to get the book. In 1951, he published laixinxia's "Jane History of the US Imperialist Invasion of Taiwan", which he did not buy for a long time, and finally learned from a friend that the book was purchased by a book friend at auction many years ago. Later, Sun Weiliang contacted the book friend and learned that he was also collecting Lai Xinxia's writings and communicating with each other, and the book friend said that as long as he could get Mr. Lai Xinxia's inscription signature, it could be exchanged.
At that time, Sun Weiliang had already exchanged letters and formed a friendship with Lai Xinxia. So he immediately called Mr. Lai to explain his intentions. After receiving the permission, he bought the "Dream of the Red Chamber of the Qing Dynasty" and sent it to Tianjin, and after Mr. Lai's inscription, he sent it back to Shaoxing, and he expressed it to the book friends. Later, the book lover sent the book "A Brief History of the US Imperialist Invasion of Taiwan" as promised, and Sun Weiliang sent it to Tianjin, where Mr. Lai wrote: "This is my first historical work, which has been out of print for a long time, and I have not been in Tibet. Coming to new summer in March 2009. ”
Touched by Sun Weiliang's love for reading and the study of literature and history, Lai Xinxia donated a part of his collection to him free of charge, and Sun Weiliang used these books to build a reading room for the people of Laixinxia, hoping that more people could read good books. Lai Xinxia once lamented: "I come from the people, and I hope that my books will return to the people." ”
After learning about the 20 kinds of books written in The New Summer from the "Chronicle of Changhe Town", after more than 20 years of hard work, Sun Weiliang has collected 140 kinds of works in the New Summer, and he repeatedly studied and sorted out these books, and finally wrote a "Book of The Classics of the New Summer", which is a complete embodiment of the professor's lifelong academic achievements in the future.
Now, every day after dinner, Sun Weiliang will sit quietly in the study to study literature and history materials or write papers, and occasionally he will watch TV, mainly watching science and education channels and documentary channels, still mainly literature and history programs. For him, reading and doing learning is a high-level enjoyment.
