Paris III originated from the original Faculty of Arts of the University of Paris, formerly known as the Sorbonne Theological Seminary, which was founded in 1257, and after the May Storm in 1968, the original University of Paris was split into thirteen independent institutions, from which Paris III was born. Today, the three main fields of study in Paris are divided into four main fields: language, literature, art and media, and humanities and social sciences. At the same time, the École Supérieure des Translation and Interpretation (ESIT) is also affiliated with Paris III.
As a long-established liberal arts powerhouse, Paris is ranked among the top 100 in the world in three humanities disciplines.
