In recent years, laser technology has been widely used in the pre- and mid-section manufacturing processes of power batteries due to its high efficiency, precision, flexibility, reliability and stability, low welding consumables loss, high degree of automation and safety.

Previously, the cutting of pole pieces in the laminated structure of power batteries mostly relied on the processing technology of hardware knife molds and fiber nanosecond lasers. However, there are significant drawbacks to these two cutting methods: the maintenance cost of the hardware die is high, the flexible production capacity is insufficient, and the production effect is not satisfactory; although the fiber nanosecond laser has its own unique features, it is easy to produce molten beads and has a large heat-affected zone, and more problematicly, it cannot effectively cut the cathode area, and the technical bottleneck needs to be broken through urgently.

According to Mr. Tao, the solution places the laser on top of the equipment, and the amount of laser configuration is determined by the length of the battery. At present, if the 590 battery cell is all-laser cutting, the cutting and pulling time is accurately controlled within 0.1 seconds. Theoretically, 500W picosecond laser cutting can achieve a processing efficiency of 300PPM, but it has not yet been realized due to the processing efficiency of the lamination machine.
