Aobai's loyalty stems from his deep affection for the ancestor Huang Taiji, and he admitted to his subordinates that as a courtier, he received the emperor's grace, clothing and food were given by the emperor. He insisted that if he did not assist the heirs of the first emperor to inherit the throne, he would have no face to face the first emperor after death. In the end, Dolgon had to compromise, and the two sides jointly elected Huang Taiji's ninth son, Fu Lin, as emperor.
However, people's state of mind always changes with time. Although Ao Bai was loyal to the imperial court, after the death of Emperor Shunzhi, as one of the ministers of Tuogu, he gradually changed his original intention. He excluded dissidents from the court, formed a party for personal gain, and turned a blind eye to the young Kangxi Emperor. Originally, Ao Bai was the last of the four ministers, but due to the old age and frailty of the first assistant, he did not care about political affairs, the second Sukh Saha was capricious, and the ministers disdained him, and the third Ji Bilong was timid and fearful, and he only looked forward to everything. Therefore, although there are four ministers in name, in fact, the power of the government is in the hands of worship.
Aobai, who has been in charge of the government for a long time, has gradually bred a heart of disobedience and has become more and more arrogant. Once, he actually asked Kangxi to execute Suke Saha in the court. Kangxi didn't comply, and Ao Bai dared to step forward and grab the emperor's hand to threaten. At that time, Suke Saha had seen the situation clearly and asked Kangxi to resign to guard the tomb of Emperor Shunzhi, but although Kangxi knew that Suke Saha was not guilty of death, he had to order his family to be exterminated. Suke Saha's death made Emperor Kangxi deeply saddened by the death of the rabbit and the fox, and began to plan to eradicate Aobai.
In films, television and literary works, Ao Bai is often depicted as being captured by a little eunuch trained by Kangxi. But is this really the case? Ao Bai has been through a hundred battles, has great courage, and judging from his means of eradicating dissidents, his mind is by no means as simple as in film and television works. How could a person who was so brave and resourceful be easily subdued by a few little eunuchs? What's more, eunuchs were generally physically weak due to physical reasons, and even after training, it was difficult for them to excel in martial arts. Therefore, the claim that Ao Bai was captured by the eunuch may just be a rumor spread by Kangxi in order to belittle Ao Bai and make him laugh at after his death.
So, what was the real reason for Ao Bai's capture? Perhaps it was because he did not fully control the power of the palace guards, and was eventually captured by Kangxi's guards. The imperial guards of the Qing Dynasty were strictly selected and loyal to the emperor. Although Aobai is arrogant and domineering, Kangxi is young and not in power, and no one can control him.
