According to foreign news reports, it was reported last week that Tesla laid off more than 14,000 employees, a significant reduction of 10% in the number of employees. Now, the LinkedIn story of a former Tesla employee firing is gaining traction online, giving us a glimpse into the human cost of such large-scale corporate decisions.

Tesla's production supervisor was fired and went viral: reduced commute and often slept in the car and factory

Nico Murillo began working at Tesla's Fremont, California, facility in 2019, initially as a production assistant, but soon began working his way up the ranks, as outlined in his LinkedIn bio. In 2020, he was promoted to Chief Production Assistant and in 2021 became Production Supervisor. However, he was fired last week.

Murilo's story began at 4:30 a.m. on Monday, April 15, when he opened his laptop to check his email. Curiously, he found out that his account had been deactivated, but he thought it was an IT mistake and continued with his morning routine.

At 5:00 a.m., he was on his way to work, a 90-minute drive. Murillo mentioned that on his commute, he usually checks his email while the vehicle is on autopilot. However, on this very day, he received a devastating message that his position had been cancelled.

Murillo texted his manager and was told that "everyone knows about it and we'll get more information later." At 5:50 a.m., he tried to enter the factory, but was denied, and a security guard took his security card. He returned to the car and sat in disbelief.

While all layoff stories are sad, Murillo's story has garnered a lot of attention, which may have something to do with his unwavering dedication to Tesla. After laying out a schedule for the day, the production supervisor showed the world his extraordinary commitment to his work.

"Sometime in 2023, I even sacrificed the opportunity to sleep in my car on weekdays, just to avoid commuting to work. Murillo wrote. "Take a shower in the factory and sleep in the parking lot. Microwave dinner in the lounge. 」

The post generated widespread sympathy on LinkedIn, and a similar experience shared by another former Tesla employee who gave everything he had for the company only to be fired, suggesting that Murillo's story is anything but unique.
