Land Rover will unveil its flagship Defender OCTA on July 3 and have released a series of new trailers for this powerful off-road vehicle. It also invites potential buyers to attend events held around the world to test the new Defenders together.
The Land Rover Defender is one of the most powerful and luxurious off-road vehicles currently on sale, and the new OCTA model promises to take the Defender range to the next level. Interested buyers can register for one of seven Defender Elements events in the UK, Germany, Italy, USA, Dubai, and Japan, where they will be given early access. During these events, customers can also specify and order their own OCTAs.
In addition to the standard Guardian tests, Defender OCTA's engineers conducted more than 13,960 additional tests, including high-performance handling and durability at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, wet asphalt in Ladoux in France, ice in Sweden, grueling rally raid stages in Lastours in France, deserts in Dubai, and Moab rock crawls in Utah, USA.
At the heart of the Defender OCTA is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine from BMW with mild hybrid technology. The engine will deliver 626 hp and 750 Nm of torque, which is more powerful than the 575 hp and 700 Nm of torque of the Defender V8.
Land Rover's advanced 6D Dynamics suspension system will also come standard. This setup does away with the traditional anti-roll bar and features a gas spring with a hydraulic cross-linked damper with a semi-active electro-hydraulic flow valve. Improved road handling and improved wheel travel and articulation on off-road terrain.
As part of the Defender OCTA teaser campaign, Land Rover has released a new video documenting some of the tests that have been carried out over the past three years. In the short film, we see the off-road vehicle conquering all kinds of difficult terrain, and also let us hear the sound of this V8 running for the first time.
