……

A big case in a small town

On December 6, 2023, the third day of the opening of a brand gold store in Tongcheng County, Xianning City, Hubei Province.

That morning, when the employees opened the store, they were in shambles: jewelry trays and boxes were scattered all over the floor, gold jewelry was missing from the counter, and a large hole had been cut in the safe......

In the middle of the night, 5,876.16 grams of gold disappeared......

The picture shows the scene of the gold theft all over the ground.

According to statistics, 533 pieces of gold jewelry and products were stolen, with a total weight of 5,876.16 grams, and the current price reached more than 3.33 million yuan.

Tongcheng County is located at the junction of Hubei, Hunan and Jiangxi provinces, with a permanent population of 430,000.

The police checked the surveillance video and found that at about 2 o'clock in the morning on the day of the incident, a thief wearing a hat, mask and gloves hid in the stairwell of the mall, chiseled open the back wall of the gold store and sneaked in, looted the gold jewelry in the three counters against the wall and left.

Later, the thieves infiltrated again and used an oxygen cutter to cut open the safe and steal the gold stored in the locker.

The external investigation police reported that the suspect also wore hats, masks, and gloves throughout the whole process during his stay in the county, used cash to settle purchases, and did not stay in a hotel to avoid contact with people. The police could not see any facial features, nor could they capture any valuable traces and physical evidence, which shows that the suspect has a strong sense of anti-investigation.

Due to the seriousness of the case, Hubei set up a special team for the integration of provinces, cities and counties, and set up a "12.06" task force to carry out all-out tackling.

In the middle of the night, 5,876.16 grams of gold disappeared......

The picture shows the task force conducting research and judgment on the "12.06" extraordinarily large theft case.

Thousands of miles after the thief

Late at night on December 7, the task force's office was still brightly lit, 21 hours after the incident.

According to the research and judgment, after committing the crime, the suspect changed motorcycles, bicycles and other tools, escaped along the township road and provincial road, entered Xiushui County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province from Maishi Town, Tongcheng County, and then traveled all the way to Pingjiang County, Changsha City, Yueyang City, Hunan Province and other places, deliberately going around and hiding his whereabouts.

On December 7, the suspect turned into Gushui Village on the first section of Xiangxiang City, Hunan Province, and lost his trace.

At 2 a.m. on the 12th, the police found traces of the suspect in Gushui Village, and after dawn, they searched for the tail box of the motorcycle that the suspect dismantled and discarded, and then found the main body of the motorcycle in the nearby grass.

Subsequently, the police extracted valuable biological samples from the motorcycle key, and after DNA comparison, they found the "first key" for Xie Mou, a man from Guangxi, to lock the identity of the suspect.

At the same time, the police rushed to a motorcycle manufacturer in Luoyang City, Henan Province to verify and determined that the motorcycle involved in the case finally fell into the hands of the suspect Xie after several reversals.

The external investigation team also had good news: they collected 39 100 yuan bills used by suspected suspects, and after investigation one by one, it was found that 4 of them were taken by Xie from the ATM.

On December 15, next to an abandoned bus station in Yulin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the task force arrested Xie on a bus that was about to leave the station.

At this point, a 10,000-mile chase that lasted for 9 days and spanned 26 counties (cities) in 5 provinces (regions) came to an end.

Gold buried in the forest

Finding the whereabouts of the stolen gold became the last "hard bone" to overcome the case.

During the interrogation, Xie refused to speak, resisted stubbornly, or evaded the important and trivial, and the interrogation was at an impasse for a time.

Seeing that Xie strongly resisted to explain the facts of the case and the location of the stolen goods, the special team adjusted the interrogation strategy and stepped up the work of tracing the source.

After continuous review, the task force believes that the suspect is very likely to hide the gold during the period from 18:25 on December 12 to 7:46 on December 15, passing through the area of Hechi City, Guangxi Province and Liunan District, Liuzhou City.

However, with more than 60 kilometers of straight-line distance between Hechi and Liuzhou, and mountains and forests along the way, it is almost impossible to carry out a carpet search.

With the help of the police, Xie and his girlfriend who said goodbye 12 years ago began to communicate, and gradually became willing to talk about the details of the crime.

On the evening of March 20 this year, Xie's psychological defense line collapsed and he took the initiative to explain the location of the gold collection.

On March 21, according to Xie's confession, the police of the special case team seized two bags of gold jewelry and products that he wrapped in underwear and socks and buried in the ground.

So far, the "12.06" extraordinarily large gold theft case has been successfully solved.
