One night during this year's Spring Festival holiday, a car in Hengyang County, Hunan Province, unfortunately overturned while crossing the village bridge, and instantly fell into the icy river water. The car is flipped over, the bottom is facing up, and the river under the bridge is so fast that it can submerge the waist of an adult. A man and a woman in the car fell into a coma due to a violent impact. The river had long since flooded the open car windows, and their lives were in danger.
At this time, Liu Wei was spending the Spring Festival with his family. He keenly caught the strange noise coming from the window, and glimpsed the sudden danger through the upstairs window. He rushed to the scene of the accident, jumped into the icy water, and began a rescue operation against time.
He first locked on to the person in the passenger seat as the focus of the rescue, and with calm judgment, dived into the water and successfully rescued a woman from the car. The woman regained consciousness shortly after being brought ashore and was temporarily out of danger for her life.
However, bigger challenges arose. The man in the driver's seat was locked and weighed a lot, making the rescue effort extremely difficult. Despite the great physical exertion, Liu Wei dived into the water again, entered the interior of the car through the window, and with tenacious perseverance and the help of everyone who rushed to hear the news, he finally succeeded in opening the car door and untying the man's seat belt.
With great difficulty, the men were dragged from the river to the shore. Unfortunately, the man was no longer able to breathe on his own as a result of the impact and prolonged drowning. Even in the face of such a grim situation, Liu Wei still did not give up, and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man with his family for 40 minutes. It wasn't until an ambulance arrived to take over the treatment that Liu Wei collapsed to the ground.
On the premise of ensuring safety, Liu Wei helps others as much as he can. Such a move demonstrates his respect and cherishment of life, and also reflects his fearless responsibility and selfless dedication as a Communist Party member and teacher in a critical moment. In March 2024, the local people's government awarded Mr. Liu Wei the honorary title of "2023 Hengyang County Righteousness and Courage as an Advanced Individual".
Liu Wei is a post-90s physics teacher at Honggui Middle School in Shenzhen. His classes are relaxed and funny, and his knowledge is explained in simple terms, which is deeply loved by students. Liu Wei himself never mentioned the matter of jumping into the river to save people.
