Tencent Technology News reported on April 26 that Stardust Intelligence released its self-developed AI robot Astribot S1, which can perform a number of complex tasks useful to people through imitation learning, and access to large model testing, which is expected to be commercialized in 2024.

Lai Jie, founder and CEO of Stardust Intelligence, is the No. 1 employee of Tencent's RoboticsX Robotics Lab. According to the display of Stardust Intelligence, in the 1x speed video without accelerated processing (3 to 10 times the speed is common in the industry), the S1 robot can complete a series of complex tasks such as folding clothes, sorting items, stir-frying, vacuuming and cleaning, and competing cups in home and work scenarios.

In 2024, there will be a lot of "dark horses" in the field of humanoid robots, compared with the past "show" demos, this year's humanoid robot display is more inclined to be "useful to people", such as Stanford University's ALOHA to show stir-fry skills, Musk's Optimus Gen2 to show "folding clothes" skills, and Figure01 a few months ago directly demonstrated the ability to communicate smoothly with people.

In terms of software, the development of large models represented by Open AI promotes the intelligent development of the "brain" of humanoid robots, and in hardware, manipulators and bipeds make the robot's movement ability more flexible.

Humanoid robots are also constantly emerging algorithm-level innovations such as RT-1, which, combined with their "cerebellum" ability, make the humanoid robot's ability to move more smoothly.

In terms of software, Stardust Intelligent S1 supports a variety of data collection methods such as video, motion capture and teleoperation, and uses reinforcement learning, imitation learning and multi-modal large models to complete learning and training. According to Stardust Intelligence, the S1 robot can be upgraded with software to continuously improve its intelligence and multi-task generalization capabilities. S1 is similar to Stanford University's ALOHA in that it uses a combination of video data and human presentation data.

In terms of hardware, Stardust Intelligent self-developed high-performance motor drive system, integrating multiple complex systems such as control, sensing, transmission and drive, provides agile dynamic operation capabilities for the S1 robot. In addition, the head, hands, and torso are modular, which can be flexibly assembled or disassembled according to different needs, improving task adaptability.

The background of the Stardust Intelligence team includes cutting-edge technology companies such as Tencent, Google, UBTECH, Baidu and Huawei, and its founder, Lai Jie, has 16 years of experience in robot research and development, and has worked in Tencent Robotics Lab (No. 1 employee), Baidu "Xiaodu Robot" (team leader), Hong Kong Polytechnic University, etc. He has designed a number of new robots, led the development of the wheel-legged robot Ollie at Tencent, and continued to promote the combination of robotics and artificial intelligence technology.
