In the course of the Liberation War, Liu Deng's army advanced into Dabie Mountain was an important node, and before they entered Dabie Mountain, the People's Liberation Army still had a tenacious contingent there, they experienced the encirclement and suppression of the Kuomintang reactionaries, survived the attack of the Japanese invaders, and left the fire of revolution in the Dabie Mountain.
The leader of this unit is General Luo Houfu, whose experience can also be called a special history of the Dabie Mountain Revolutionary Base Area.
Luo Houfu, who was born in Huang'an, Hubei Province, joined the local Red Guards before he was 20 years old, and later joined the Red Army to carry out revolutionary activities around his hometown.
In 1932, when the Kuomintang reactionaries intensified their encirclement and suppression, the local party organizations were broken up, and Luo Houfu went to Macheng alone to find the organization, and was later appointed as the political commissar of the special service battalion of the Northeast Hubei Provincial Committee, responsible for leading the resistance movement in the Dabie Mountain area.
At that time, the conditions in the mountains were very difficult, and he had to face the search of the Kuomintang, but Luo Houfu still persevered.
In 1935, Zhang Guotao carried out a series of anti-rebellion campaigns in the surrounding areas, and many soldiers loyal to the revolution were punished or even killed, which made Luo Houfu, then secretary of the Guangshan County Party Committee, feel very angry.
He went to the Hubei-Henan-Anhui Provincial Party Committee Security Bureau to ask for an explanation, but he didn't expect that the other party not only did not accept the opinion, but also accused Luo Houfu of "not understanding Marxism-Leninism at all."
Seeing that things were about to get bigger, the sentry of the Security Bureau took the initiative to take Luo Houfu out of the room, and reminded him that he had to "have more eyes" in the future, but Luo Houfu did not understand the sentinel's reminder, and after returning to Guangshan, he had to sort out the materials and report them to the central government.
However, before he could prepare the materials, the Security Bureau issued an order to send Luo Houfu to the provincial party committee for investigation.
At that time, Luo Houfu's leader Dai Keming knew that this trip was auspicious, so he asked Luo Houfu to flee quickly, but Luo Houfu knew that once he escaped, then Dai Keming was very likely to be implicated, and he also wanted to confront those who killed his comrades head-on, so he resolutely returned to the Security Bureau.
This time in the interrogation room, Luo Houfu was interrogated for a long time, in order to make Luo Houfu admit that he was a "reorganization faction", the other party even tied him to a big tree and did not let him rest well, but no matter what kind of torture he faced, Luo Houfu always firmly stated that he was a Communist Party member and did not participate in any faction.
In the end, the Security Bureau decided to execute Luo Houfu, a "diehard", but on the way to the execution ground, the firing squad encountered an ambush by the enemy, and Luo Houfu asked the escort to untie him and fight back the enemy first.
Later, he commanded the firing squad with a broadsword to repel the enemy's attack, and was finally spared death due to his meritorious service, but he was still expelled from the army and became a porter with the army.
Someone suggested that he go to the Party Central Committee to explain the situation, but Luo Houfu said that he would die in Dabie Mountain, and rejected their kindness.
After Zhang Guotao left the party, Luo Houfu and others were rehabilitated, and they returned to the leadership post of the Red Army.
After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Luo Houfu accepted the organization's arrangement to stay in Dabie Mountain to lead the tour guide to fight, at first he served as the captain of the Sixth Independent Guerrilla Brigade of the New Fourth Army, during the operation in Dawu County, Hubei, he led less than 200 soldiers to eliminate the stronghold guarded by more than 3,000 puppet troops.
This victory removed the big stone that weighed on the heads of the local people, and this victory recognized Luo Houfu's military ability, and he also rose all the way to the position of commander of the Jianghan Military Region and commander of the 1st Independent Brigade.
Although Luo Houfu's official position was much larger than before, the anti-Japanese situation in the Dabie Mountain area was very tense at that time, and the team he could call was still very limited, and he was at a significant disadvantage in terms of military comparison with the Japanese army.
However, Luo Houfu never gave up the battle, and he relied on the support of the local people and his knowledge of the terrain to fight the Japanese army.
There was once a Japanese army entrenched near Luo Houfu's hometown, Luo Houfu found that a stone bridge was the only way for the Japanese army to go out, so he planted explosives under the bridge, and finally succeeded in annihilating a small group of Japanese troops who went out.
In the past few years, Luo Houfu and his comrades-in-arms have been constantly harassing the local Japanese puppet army, which not only killed and injured their vital forces, but also made them dare not act rashly, effectively protecting the lives and property of the local people.
After the end of the Anti-Japanese War, Chiang Kai-shek launched a national civil war, and on June 26, 1946, he launched a "great encirclement and annihilation" against the Central Plains troops of our army.
At this time, after judging the situation and sizing up the situation, our army made a strategic decision to break through the encirclement, and then launched the "Central Plains Breakthrough Campaign".
According to the original plan, in the early stage of the campaign, the troops of the Jianghan Military Region led by Luo Houfu attracted the enemy in the same place and played the role of covering the main force to break through.
In early July, Luo Houfu had already completed the established cover plan and successfully led his troops to break through to the Zhushan area in northwestern Hubei and was preparing to advance into northern Sichuan.
But at this time, he received an order from his superiors, asking them to return to the battlefield immediately, it turned out that the main force in the south was blocked from breaking through, and it was urgent for the brother troops to attract firepower.
At that time, some soldiers were dissatisfied with this request, and they finally escaped alive, but they had to go back to "send them to death", which was clearly the "main force" of the superiors.
In the face of this situation, Luo Houfu understood the soldiers with affection and reason, persuaded them to believe in the command of the Party Central Committee, and said that the Communist Party army must not be like the Kuomintang and fight on its own.
Thanks to his efforts, the morale of the soldiers was restored, and with their efforts, the large army finally succeeded in breaking through, and Luo Houfu once again accepted the order to stick to the Dabie Mountains and persist in guerrilla warfare.
Compared with the War of Resistance Against Japan, Luo Houfu was in an even more difficult situation this time, not only was the supply of weapons and ammunition insufficient, but for a period of time, the only two radio stations they had were all destroyed in the battle, which made them lose the ability to communicate with the outside world.
However, even so, Luo Houfu never had the idea of leaving Dabie Mountain, and he waged an arduous battle with the Kuomintang reactionaries with his only resources, successfully pinning down part of the enemy's forces, and retaining part of the red base area, which provided some help for the subsequent advance of Liu Deng's army into Dabie Mountain.
