Pure electric "big G", world debut!

What kind of new chapter will the off-road legend of Mercedes-Benz "Big G" write in the era of electrification?

On the eve of the Beijing Motor Show, the all-new Mercedes-Benz pure electric G-Class off-road vehicle ushered in its world debut. Also making their domestic debuts were the all-new Mercedes-Benz G500 and the all-new Mercedes-AMG G63. The new Mercedes-Benz pure electric G-class off-road vehicle, which has been paid attention to by the media for a long time, has filled the gap in the market segment with its birth, and what are the highlights worth looking forward to?

The styling of the all-new all-electric G-Class is the same as that of the classic square box of the petrol version. At the same time, it also retains the non-load-bearing body structure, adopting the suspension form of a rigid axle with a front double wishbone rear electric drive integral axle, with a minimum ground clearance of 250mm, an approach angle of 32°, and a departure angle of 30.7°.

In terms of electric drive, the all-new pure electric G-class adopts a four-wheel and four-independent motor layout, with an overall peak power of 432kW, a peak torque of 1164Nm, and a 0-100 acceleration time of 4.7s, which is between the AMG G63 and G500. Of course, off-road ability will be a more important factor for the G-Class, with the all-new pure G-Class capable of 45-degree climbing capability and roll stability at 35-degree. The 850 mm wading depth is 150 mm higher than that of the gasoline model, and the wading capacity is further improved.

In order to improve the performance of the new G-Class, its independently responsive wheel motor comes with a two-speed shift, which can amplify the motor torque by two times at low speeds, so as to more calmly cope with scenarios such as climbing and getting out of trouble. Four independent motors can achieve an "electric virtual differential lock" function through intelligent torque vectoring, making it easy to get out of trouble even when a single wheel has grip.

In addition, the all-new all-electric G-Class has three special driving modes to keep an eye on. The "off-road crawl" mode can intelligently control the vehicle to choose forward or backward in the process of climbing or descent in 3 cruise modes at a fixed speed, while the driver only needs to hold the steering wheel to focus on the driving route; "G-STEERING" function can lock the inner rear wheels through the wheel motor, significantly reducing the turning radius of the new all-electric G-Class off-road vehicle, so as to pass the extreme U-turn section; "G-TURN" The U-turn function controls the wheels on both sides to rotate in reverse through the four motors, which can complete the high-speed in-situ steering on flat ground, and turn around faster to get out of trouble when encountering a broken road.

As for the battery, the 12 modules have a battery pack with a usable power of 116kWh, which brings a range of about 570 kilometers in CLTC mode, which is not low, but it is also the cost and price that must be paid for strong off-road ability. At the same time, the vehicle supports DC fast charging with a maximum power of 200kW, which takes 32 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. The patented lightweight composite material supports the base shield for high corrosion resistance, weighing only 57.6kg, which is one-third the weight of steel and aluminum of the same shape, but even more rigid, and has an additional layer of protection at the bottom of the battery to protect against water, dust and stone splashing.

According to Mercedes-Benz's official introduction, the prototype test vehicle of the all-new pure electric G-Class has undergone 336 ascent tests on the Austrian Sherkel Mountain, and each test must pass through this extreme outdoor proving ground with an altitude of 1,445 meters, a gradient of up to 60%, and a slope gradient of up to 40%. It can make 14 trips to the summit of Sherkel on a single charge. In addition, the prototype test vehicle crossed the Perpignan Great Plains in Sweden and defied the extreme cold.

With the help of electric drive technology, the all-new all-electric G-Class shows the world more possibilities for the development of hard-core off-road technology. If the new pure electric G-class chooses the strategy of "the same price of oil and electricity" after the official launch, I don't know who its target users will vote for?
