Dengue fever is predominantly endemic in tropical and subtropical regions, with epidemics occurring in more than 100 countries in Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, South-East Asia and the Western Pacific, with the most severe in the Americas, South-East Asia and the Western Pacific. According to data released on the official website of the World Health Organization (WHO), since 2024, the number of cases in neighboring mainland countries and countries with major dengue cases imported in the past has increased compared with the same period in 2023. The "May Day" holiday is coming, and citizens who have plans to leave the country should prepare in advance.
What is dengue fever?
Dengue fever ("broken bone fever") is an acute infectious disease caused by the dengue virus and transmitted by the bite of the Aedes mosquito. Typical symptoms are sudden high fever, severe headache, orbital pain, generalized musculoskeletal and joint pain, fatigue, rash, etc., which may be accompanied by flushing of the face, neck and chest, conjunctival hyperemia, nausea and vomiting.
The population is generally susceptible, and the incubation period after infection with the virus is 1-14 days, and most are 5-9 days. Most people with dengue virus infection have a good prognosis. In rare cases, it can progress to severe disease and even death.
How can it be prevented?
At present, there is no specific drug for dengue fever, and there is no effective vaccine to prevent dengue fever in China. Therefore, prevention is key!
Avoid being bitten by Aedes albopictus or Aedes aegypti (also known as "flower mosquito" or "spotted mosquito").

If dengue fever is diagnosed, it is important to:
Pay attention to rest, avoid exertion and moderate-to-high-intensity exercise;
Avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and aspirin;
Cooperate with local disease control agencies and community staff in epidemiological investigations and mosquito prevention and control measures.
Remove stagnant water and mosquitoes inside and outside the residential area04
In order to protect the health of your family, it is recommended to use screen doors, window screens, mosquito nets, mosquito coils, etc. When cleaning up stagnant water, if there are larvae in the stagnant water, be sure not to pour stagnant water into the sewer, but to pour stagnant water on dry ground. For useful water storage containers, water plant bonsai, etc., change the water regularly 1-2 times a week. Do not litter bottles, cans, boxes and other garbage, and do not pile up waste tires in the open air.
