1. The three brothers and sisters entered the 60th Army

In the winter of 1949, Chongqing was liberated, and the Kuomintang army fled to Chengdu. The first national middle school in southern Shaanxi planned to move south to Sichuan, and the gang dispersed halfway, and Yu Guozhen, his brother Yu Guofan, and his sister Yu Guoping, who were studying in this middle school, had to wander in Chengdu. At the end of the year, Chengdu was liberated, and the three of them were admitted to the 60th Army Camp School together.

Not long after, my parents wrote to me saying that if I was willing to go to school, I could send money for the journey, but the three siblings replied: We continue to be in the army and participate in the revolution.

In April 1950, the local bandits rebelled, and they moved closer to the station while firing guns, and the platoon commander was a Shanxi veteran who had been wounded many times, carrying a light machine gun and crawling on the top of the wheat grave. It wasn't until the guard company arrived that he picked up his machine gun and opened fire. The brothers and sisters of the Yu family lay on the wall and cheered warmly.

It was the first time they had taken part in battle.

After graduation, Yu Guofan and Yu Guoping were assigned to the 60th Army Art Troupe, and Yu Guozhen was assigned to the 180th Division Art Troupe.

2. Brothers meet unexpectedly in a foreign country

At the beginning of March 1951, the 60th Army was ordered to go to North Korea to resist US aggression and aid Korea.

It was freezing and very hard along the way. When the 180th Division marched towards Yichuan, the voice of "Is Yu Guozhen here?" came from the front. Yu Guozhen was very strange, except for the meeting, everyone called him "little ghost", who called me a big name? Thinking that it was a leader, he immediately replied: "Here!"

As a result, a soldier came in front, and as soon as he stretched out his arm, he hugged Yu Guozhen's neck and shouted his name.

"Brother!" Yu Guozhen exclaimed in surprise, so excited that he didn't know what to say.

After they joined the army, they didn't see each other for nearly a year.

Yu Guofan asked his younger brother: "Are you tired, are you foaming on your feet?"

The younger brother said: "Resist US aggression and aid Korea, protect the family and defend the country, what can I do if I am afraid of being tired?"

My brother smiled, "That's good!"

Then, he said, "Hurry up and get there, be careful of falling behind." He took out a canned food and stuffed it into Yu Guofan's arms, and disappeared into the dusty marching team in the blink of an eye.

They only met in 1955.

3. The boss is the only surviving female prisoner of war in the Volunteer Army

After the 60th Army rested for a week in Yichuan, on April 26, the fifth battle began.

On May 26, the 180th Division Art Troupe went to the front line to perform. Yu Guozhen, who was only 15 years old, was sent to the health team to take care of the wounded. His immediate boss was the head nurse, and the wounded were all living in caves in the tunnels.

As the military vehicles carrying equipment and medicines were blown up, the wounded were treated with red mercury, iodine and anti-inflammatory powder. Yu Guozhen was taught some simple methods by the little nurse to take care of the wounded. A wounded man was infected with anthrax in his lower leg, there was no anticorbic serum injection, his muscles were black and smelly and necrotic upward, and he urgently needed to be amputated, but there was no anesthetic and surgical saw, so the doctor had to carry him out of the cave and let Yu Guozhen and other five or six people hold him down, the doctor wiped the wooden saw and gritted his teeth, and the wounded screamed twice and passed out, and a few days later he was still screaming in pain. Yu Guozhen still sighed decades later:

"If they can be treated in time, how can the lives of the soldiers hang by a thread. ”

On the ninth day of work, Yu Guozhen received an order to return to the team.

After Yu Guozhen reunited with the art troupe, he was very happy, and then everyone was ordered to retreat. On the way, the crowd also went to play on a downed enemy plane. At this moment, they had no idea that the tide of the battle had taken a turn for the worse.

After Yu Guozhen left the 180th Division's medical team, the hospital people still stuck to the tunnels and caves, and finally the American tanks came and blocked the caves, more than 200 wounded were shot, and more than a dozen medical personnel were captured, including the female head nurse - Yu Guozhen saw a picture of the female head nurse during the exchange of prisoners of war in 1953 - she was the only surviving female prisoner of war of the volunteers.

Yu Guozhen and others escaped in ignorance.

It is said that thanks to the commander Wei Jie, who resolutely ordered them to evacuate at midnight, the art troupe was able to survive. The rest of the 180th Division was almost completely destroyed.

4. My brother was a prisoner of war

Yu Guozhen's brother Yu Guofan did not have such good luck.

When Yu Guofan arrived at the army's logistics department far from the front line, on the morning of May 26, he was ordered to unload grain. As a result, he saw several tanks coming from the road, mistook them for our troops, and happily met them, but unexpectedly they were enemy tanks! They opened heavy fire on the vehicles and crowds of the 60 th Army. Yu Guofan and a dozen people hid in an air-raid shelter on the side of the road, and the entrance to the hole was blocked by enemy tanks, and they were reluctantly captured.

In the concentration camp, Yu Guofan was brave and unyielding.

Zhong Junhua, a friend of the victims, later said: "Yu Guofan is a member of the 60th Army Art Corps, and he recited the poems of Xia Wanchun, a poet in the late Ming Dynasty, and Liu Zhijian, the protagonist of the drama "Iron Warrior", so that the audience heard his voice as if he saw him, and he was extremely inspiring. ”

"During the 'anti-flag-raising' struggle on October 9, he was beaten by the enemy and could not move, thinking that he would surely die, and asked me to remember to avenge him. ”

Yu Guofan's deeds were recorded in the book "Documentary of Prisoners of War of the Volunteer Army".

However, he did not die.

In 1953, during the exchange of prisoners of war, he was replaced, his hair uncut for two years, like a woman. Yu Guozhen said: "My brother is outgoing, enthusiastic, talkative, loyal, patriotic and full of acting talent. In the spring of 1955, he went to Beijing to apply for the Central Academy of Drama, but he failed to be selected because of his hasty preparation, and he was unwilling to take the exam again. Later, I was tutoring in Tianjin, and my brother sold the new flying pigeon car and sent me money, and he walked to and from work every day, but unfortunately he used a homemade earthen gun to beat sparrows when he was 'eliminating the four evils', and the breech of the gun exploded, and he was wounded and died at the age of 24. ”

5. My cousin is also in North Korea

Although the 180th Division was destroyed, after the reconstruction, Yu Guozhen continued to work in the 180th Division Art Troupe.

In the spring of 1953, the summer counterattack was about to begin, and the 33rd Independent Mechanized Division of the Volunteer Army was under the command of the 60th Army. The division's art team came to give a condolence performance to the 180th Division, which served as the main attacker. The literary and artistic soldiers were having a party in the big air-raid shelter, Yu Guozhen suddenly saw a female comrade in the corner who was familiar, and after a closer look, it turned out to be his cousin Jiang Xiancai.

She used to be a student at the No. 1 National Middle School, and it had been more than three years since she was separated in the autumn of 1949, and she could not have imagined meeting at the front line! Yu Guozhen rushed over, hugged her neck, and shouted: "Sister!"

Yu Guozhen is already a 17-year-old guy, and such a hug made Jiang Xiancai blush. He reported his name and name, and his cousin suddenly realized that he was very happy.

Yu Guozhen unexpectedly met his cousin in North Korea, but he never saw his sister Yu Guoping, and the brother and sister did not see each other until they returned home after the war.

Yu Guozhen's brothers and sisters (sisters) participated in the Great War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and they were all in the art troupe.

6. A few snaps of fingers changed lives

Yu fought in Korea for three full years before returning to China at the end of 1953.

In order not to disturb the Korean people, late one night, the 180th Division quietly boarded a stuffy tank train and left, got off at a certain train in northern Korea, marched for three more days, crossed the Yalu River pontoon bridge, boarded the motherland train, and sang all the way to Anhui.

In the early summer of 1954, Yu Guozhen prepared to learn vocal singing and music theory. Unfortunately, the literary and artistic team of the whole army was streamlined and reorganized, and in the spring of 1955, he was demobilized and returned to his hometown, and then he was admitted to the Chinese Department of Tianjin Normal University and served as a member of the literary and artistic committee.

Three years later, he graduated from university and wanted to teach at Nankai Middle School. Because his uncle and aunt were studying at the school during the May Fourth Movement. My aunt also lived in the same dormitory as Deng Yingchao and participated in student sports.

However, a small thing changed his fate.

One day, after the secretary of the general branch of the Chinese Department made a distribution report, Yu Guozhen hummed a song, snapped his fingers, and hugged more than 100 students down the stairs.

How do you know that the secretary is behind him.

The next day, he criticized Yu Guozhen at the meeting, saying that he was disrespectful to the leader.

Subsequently, Yu Guozhen was assigned to the outside of the wind and snow plug, and he worked for decades.

7. The county magistrate who is full of wine and food angrily!

In the 80s, when China was reforming and opening up, one day the "China Youth Daily" published a message in the upper right corner of the third page of the "China Youth Daily": Two Taiwanese businessmen from Shanxi Province went to Hongdong County to invest and set up a factory, saying that they were captured personnel of the 180th Division, hoping to meet their former acquaintances in the same division. Yu Guozhen and several comrades-in-arms received a notice and rushed to the hotel on bicycles, but as a result, they waited on the cold bench.

The county magistrate accompanied the Taiwan businessmen to their full of wine and food before coming out to meet them. When the county magistrate compared their blue uniforms with the other party's suits and leather shoes, he blurted out: "You might as well go to Taiwan in the first place!"

When Yu Guozhen heard this, he became angry and furious: "Nonsense! How annoying you are to let hundreds of thousands of martyrs hear such words in the heavens!"

Several people stopped seeing each other, patted their butts, and left.
