The 2024 "May Day" holiday is coming, which will usher in the peak of traffic flow, and the pressure on road traffic will also increase. In order to do a good job in ensuring highway travel services, the Xiangshui Highway Center comprehensively analyzed the operation of national and provincial trunk highways and issued the "2024 May Day Highway Travel Service Guide", reminding the public to reasonably choose travel time, routes and methods, and avoid travel peaks and easily blocked road sections.
According to the spirit of the notice of the General Office of the State Council, the 2024 Labor Day holiday arrangements are as follows: May 1 (Wednesday) to May 5 (Sunday) for a total of 5 days. April 28 (Sunday) and May 11 (Saturday) to work.
Road network traffic forecasting
1. Overall traffic forecast
The May Day holiday coincides with a five-day holiday, and the public's demand for travel will increase, especially the demand for tourism travel will be released intensively. It is estimated that during May Day in 2024, the average daily cross-sectional flow of trunk roads in our county will be about 16,912 vehicles, an increase of 5.92% over the same period last year, and an increase of 17.73% over usual, and the daily peak traffic volume will be at 9:00-11:00 and 16:00-18:00, with obvious tidal characteristics.
2. Speed prediction
During the May Day period, the average cross-sectional speed of ordinary national and provincial roads is expected to be 61.7 km/h, a decrease of 0.96% from the same period last year.
3. Forecast of vehicle distribution
During the May Day holiday, the weather is fine, self-driving trips such as short-distance tours and peripheral tours are vigorous, and the highway is free of charge, and the flow of passenger cars has increased significantly compared with usual. It is estimated that the average daily passenger traffic of ordinary national and provincial roads in our county will account for 74.41%, an increase of about 5 percentage points compared with usual.
4. Forecast of peak traffic hours
Comprehensively considering the public travel rules and weather conditions on May Day this year, the analysis and prediction of the change trend of the daily average traffic flow of ordinary national and provincial trunk roads in our county:
1. On April 30 (the day before the holiday), due to the dual impact of early travel and the evening rush hour after work, the traffic flow gradually increased, especially around the county.
2. On May 1 (the first day of the holiday), the flow of visiting relatives, tourism and students will be superimposed, and short- and medium-distance self-driving trips will increase significantly, and the traffic of the road network will be at the peak, and the road will be prone to congestion. Among them, S326 Laoshe (G15 high-speed Xiangshui interchange), the cross-sectional traffic flow is expected to reach 32,716 vehicles, the highest traffic flow, everyone should be prepared to avoid congestion and off-peak travel.
3. From May 2nd to 3rd (the second and third days of the holiday), the traffic of the road network decreased compared with the previous day and was still running at a high level.
4. From May 4th to 5th (the fourth and fifth days of the holiday), with the improvement of the public's awareness of staggered time and off-peak travel, the return traffic flow during the holiday will tend to be stable, and it is expected that there will be no obvious return peak.
5. Prediction of road sections with large flows
During the May Day holiday, it is expected that the traffic flow around the G15 high-speed toll station and scenic spots in the county will be more dense, and the following road sections: G204 line (county section), G204 line (Xiaojian section), S326 line (G15 interchange section, Chenjiagang section), will have a periodical traffic flow concentration and are prone to congestion.

During the May Day holiday in 2024, small passenger cars with less than 7 seats (including 7 seats) will be free of charge on the expressway, starting and ending at 00:00 on May 1 (Wednesday) to 24:00 on May 5 (Sunday), for a total of 5 days.
3. Congestion-prone road sections
The increase in vehicles during the May Day holiday can easily lead to traffic congestion, so it is recommended to arrange travel time reasonably, travel off-peak, and avoid congested road sections. 3. Avoid congested road sections. During the festival, some sections of the G204 and S326 lines are easy to slow down and congested, so it is recommended that the public understand the smooth flow of the highway in advance when traveling, and can choose to detour on other nearby roads.
