Modified gas appliances are not ventilated, and old-fashioned hoses are prohibited...... The new gas regulations are officially implemented!

author:Wen County today

Gas safety is related to you and me, and various gas safety risk accidents that are increasingly prominent in production and life especially need our attention and compliance.

Modified gas appliances are not ventilated, and old-fashioned hoses are prohibited...... The new gas regulations are officially implemented!

In order to better promote the high-quality development of urban and rural gas and prevent and reduce gas safety accidents, the new national standard for the gas industry, the "Gas Engineering Project Specification" GB55009-2021 (hereinafter referred to as the "Code"), will be officially implemented on January 1, 2022. The relevant mandatory provisions of the current engineering construction standards and the national standard "Technical Specifications for Urban Gas" (GB50494-2009) shall be repealed at the same time;

For the public, what are the relevant new requirements of the newly promulgated "Specification"?

Modified gas appliances are not allowed to be replaced

Code for Gas Engineering Projects GB55009-2021

6.1.1 Household users should choose low-pressure combustion appliances. Do not install devices or accessories other than the factory product on the gas appliance that may affect the performance of the gas appliance.

6.1.2 Flame out protection devices shall be installed on the gas appliances of household users. The type of gas indicated on the nameplate of the gas appliance should be consistent with the type of gas supplied.

This makes it clear that in the future, gas appliances that are added/modified will not be able to pass the safety review and can not be replaced and ventilated according to the law. Gas appliances shall not be mixed with gas categories inconsistent with those indicated on the nameplate, and liquefied gas appliances shall not be used as natural gas appliances, including gas stoves and water heaters. Because natural gas and liquefied gas have different gas source pressures, different composition and combustion characteristics, and different nozzle diameters, unauthorized modification will not only interfere with the normal gas output order of gas appliances, but also pose a threat to gas safety.

In daily use, you should also buy legal and regular gas appliances equipped with safety devices in accordance with regulations, when the flame is extinguished due to unexpected reasons such as wind blowing or soup spilling, the flame-out protection device will automatically close the gas source to avoid gas leakage accidents.

Discontinue the old gas hose

Code for Gas Engineering Projects GB55009-2021

6.1.7 When the household user's pipeline or LPG cylinder regulator is connected with the gas appliance by a hose, a special gas appliance shall be used to connect the hose. The service life of the hose should not be less than the scrap life of the gas appliance.

6.1.8 The connecting hose of the gas appliance shall not pass through the wall, door, window, ceiling and ground, and shall not be more than 2.0m in length and shall not have joints.

The service life of the hose should not be less than the scrap life of the gas appliance, that is, the service life of ≥ 8 years, so the old gas hose no longer meets the requirements of the regulations. Stainless steel corrugated hoses with longer life, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and aging resistance will become the new choice.

Gas self-closing valve needs to be installed

Code for Gas Engineering Projects GB55009-2021

6.1.9 The household user pipeline shall be provided with a safety device that can cut off the gas supply to the stove when the pipeline pressure is lower than the limit value or the flow rate of the pipeline connected to the stove is higher than the limit value, and the installation position shall be determined according to the performance requirements of the safety device.

This makes it clear that gas self-closing valves will become a new requirement in household gas use. The gas self-closing valve installed on the pipeline of the low-pressure gas system can realize the safety device that automatically closes when the gas supply pressure of the pipeline is underpressure or overpressurized, and can only be opened manually after closing. Be sensitive to gas leaks before they occur.

In-line gas water heaters shall not be located indoors

Code for Gas Engineering Projects GB55009-2021

6.1.3 In-line gas water heaters shall not be installed indoors. Gas heating water heaters and semi-enclosed water heaters are strictly forbidden to be installed in bathrooms and toilets.

The air required for the use of the in-line gas water heater installed indoors is taken from the room, and the exhaust gas produced by combustion is discharged indoors, which will lead to insufficient combustion in a closed environment, producing a large amount of colorless, odorless and toxic carbon monoxide, causing poisoning accidents. This is also the reason why it has been explicitly prohibited in the revision of relevant laws and regulations for many years.

The open kitchen is not ventilated

Code for Gas Engineering Projects GB55009-2021

5.3.3 The user's gas pipelines and accessories shall be reasonably arranged in combination with the structure of the building, and shall be set up in a position that is convenient for installation and maintenance, and shall not be installed in the following places: 1. Bedrooms, guest rooms and other rooms where personnel live and rest; 2. Refuge places, elevator shafts and elevator front rooms, closed stairwells, smoke-proof stairwells and their front rooms in the building; 3. Air conditioning machine rooms, ventilation machine rooms, computer rooms, transformer, power distribution rooms and other equipment rooms; 4. Warehouses for flammable or explosive materials, corrosive media and other places; 5. Trenches such as wires (cables), heating and sewage, flues, air inlets and garbage ducts.

An open kitchen is like a gas appliance installed in the same space as the living room, which does not meet the concept of a "dedicated space" in the code that meets the conditions for safe use of gas. In this way, once a gas leak or gas explosion occurs, the entire living space will be quickly endangered without any obstruction, and the destructive force and impact range will be much greater than that of a door partition. Therefore, it will be considered that it is not safe to use gas.

In terms of business, the issuance of the "Specification" also made clear requirements to strictly abide by the bottom line of gas safety.

Commercial gas appliances or gas-using equipment should be installed in a place with good ventilation, safe use conditions and easy maintenance and operation, and safety devices such as gas leakage alarm and shut-off should be installed, and the commercial gas appliances themselves should also be equipped with flame-out protection devices.

Liquefied natural gas cylinders, compressed natural gas cylinders and LPG cylinders should not be installed in the kitchens of public dining areas and large and medium-sized shopping buildings.

There are also corresponding code requirements for the installation of gas pipeline valves in commercial buildings:

(1) A valve should be set in front of the gas meter;

(2) Valves should be set separately on the gas inlet and the pipeline in front of the gas appliance in the gas use place, and there should be obvious opening and closing marks;

(3) When using a blower for premixed combustion, measures should be taken to prevent the mixed gas or flame from entering the gas pipeline, such as installing a check valve on the gas pipeline in front of the gas equipment.
