Baby snoring when sleeping?
Breathing with your mouth open?
It's not necessarily a good night's sleep
There may be something behind this
The crisis of adenoid hypertrophy!
▶ What are Adenoids?
Adenoids, also known as pharyngeal tonsils or proliferative bodies, are part of the ring of tonsils in the pharynx, and the adenoids are located in a more obscure location, at the top of the nasopharynx and the posterior wall of the pharynx. A normal person has two anterior nostrils in front of the nose and a pair of posterior nostrils in the back. Adenoids are found in the posterior nostrils of the human body, grow in the nasopharynx, are flanked by eustachian tube round occipitals, and are connected to the middle ear cavity, which is lymphoid tissue with an orange petal-like surface. Nasopharyngoscopy is usually needed to detect adenoids.

▶ What is adenoid hypertrophy?
Childhood is susceptible to acute rhinitis, acute tonsillitis and influenza, etc., if recurrent, adenoids can rapidly proliferate and hypertrophy, resulting in aggravated nasal obstruction, obstruction of nasal drainage, rhinitis sinusitis secretions and stimulate adenoids to continue to proliferate, forming a vicious circle of mutual cause and effect.
Surgery is not necessary if the adenoids shrink and symptoms improve with conservative treatment, but surgery is needed if the adenoids are enlarged and cause complications or affect the child's development.

▶ Adenoidal hypertrophy has the following five main symptoms, in addition to mouth breathing during sleep
1. Ear symptoms: secretory otitis media (hearing loss, earache, ear congestion, etc.).
2. Nasal symptoms: rhinitis, sinusitis, etc. (nasal congestion, nose suction, runny nose, snoring, severe nasal voice when speaking, etc.).
3. Throat and lower respiratory tract symptoms: laryngitis and bronchitis (throat clearing, sore throat, dry throat, cough, etc.).
4. Adenoid facies: elongated maxilla, high arched palatal bones, irregular dentition, protruding upper incisors, thick lips, lack of expression.

5. Systemic symptoms: slow growth and backward mental development.
Adenoids exist at birth in children, gradually grow up, reach their maximum at the age of 5~6 years, and gradually degenerate and shrink after the age of 10.
▶ So how can you prevent it?
1. Adjust the sleeping position, avoid sleeping on your stomach, and try to take the side lying position.
2. Obese children need to control their diet and enhance physical exercise.
3. Avoid colds, and actively treat external sensations as soon as possible to avoid aggravating nasal inflammation and otitis media.
▶ Tips
Not all babies with adenoid hypertrophy need surgery, and surgery is only needed when conservative treatment is ineffective or when adenoid hypertrophy causes other complications, such as otitis media, sinusitis, bronchitis, etc.
The appropriate timing of surgery depends on the baby's condition, because the adenoids exist at the time of birth, gradually grow, reach the maximum at the age of 5~6 years, and gradually degenerate and atrophy after the age of 10, generally speaking, surgery after the age of 6 is a more suitable time, but if the adenoid hypertrophy has led to serious complications or seriously affects the development of the child, then 3~6 years old can also be treated with surgery.
Many parents are very nervous when they hear that their babies need surgery, thinking that if they have general anesthesia surgery for such a young child, will it damage the baby's intellectual development and immune system in the future?
▶ Is there a way to solve the problem by taking medicine without surgery?
Although there is no description of adenoid hypertrophy in traditional Chinese medicine, through decades of clinical observation in our traditional Chinese medicine, adenoid hypertrophy can be compared to phlegm and dampness accumulation in the body, which accumulates in the nasopharynx when sleeping, snoring, grinding teeth or mouth breathing.
If your baby has the above symptoms
Don't panic either
Go to the hospital for a check-up
Appropriate treatment is sufficient
Early detection, early treatment~
