First, the source of the Babel Tower
According to the "Chronicle of Shaozhou Prefecture", the Tower of Babel is located "at the confluence of the Chengnan and Wuer rivers", that is, on the island of present-day Zhouxin. The pagoda was built in the 25th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1546 AD), and was rebuilt in the 31st year of the Ming Yong Calendar (1677 AD), and since then the construction situation has not been recorded due to no historical records, and it is impossible to investigate.
Referring to the "Shaozhou Fuzhi" compiled in the thirteenth year of Tongzhi (1874) at the end of the Qing Dynasty, there is an answer: the Tower of Babel was "destroyed by the Hong Bandits" in the fourth year of Xianfeng in the Qing Dynasty (1854), and the so-called "Hong Bandits" refers to the Taiping Army led by Hong Xiuquan in the peasant uprising.
Second, the story of the construction of the Tower of Babel
The reason for the construction of the Tower of Babel is recorded in the "Chronicle of Shaozhou Prefecture" and the "Record of the Tower of Babel": there was a prefect of Shaozhou in the Ming Dynasty named Chen Dalun, because he especially respected Zhang Jiuling and Yu Jing, and thought that it was a fortunate thing to come to Shaozhou to serve as an official. He is diligent in government and loves the people, thinks about Shaozhou everywhere, and has a certain study of feng shui, and when he climbed the south gate tower of Shaocheng to watch the celestial phenomenon one day, he found that since the Song Dynasty, Shaozhou has never produced a Beijing official, hoping that Shaozhou can produce talents like Zhang Jiuling and Yu Jing for generations.
He discovered that the rapids of the Xun and Wu rivers were moving south, taking away the Wenyun aura of Shaozhou, so he proposed to build a stone pagoda at the confluence of the Two Hydrates of Xunwu to serve as a barrier and leave the Wenyun of Shaozhou in Shaoguan. His proposal was endorsed by the squires and the people at the time, calling the move "exquisite for Shao Qianshi Liyou". In 1546 AD, the stone pagoda was built and named "Babel Tower". And many Shaoguan people do not know that there was a Buddhist hall under the former Babel Pagoda, and there were monks and abbots, named "Zhongliu Pillar Hall".
In the Ming and Qing dynasties, many literati went to the island to climb the tower and chanted, leaving behind many good sentences. The Tower of Babel later became one of the old twenty-four views of the Qujiang River, the "Shadow of the Tower of the Middle Stream".

3. Rebuild the Tower of Babel
At the end of 2010, the Shaoguan Municipal CPPCC officially put forward the "Proposal on Rebuilding the Baotian Pagoda of Zhouxin Island", which was endorsed by the Shaoguan Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government.
In 2011, the Shaoguan Municipal Urban Management Bureau held a seminar on the reconstruction of the "Babel Tower", which was unanimously approved. Completed in September 2012. It is understood that after archaeological excavations, the ancient Babel Tower site is still preserved to this day, the tower base is 4.1 meters deep to present the tower foundation, in the southwest direction of the tower unearthed a large number of green bricks, tiles and brick components, a total of 13 types of more than 160 pieces, these cultural relics have high architectural archaeological value, but also for the reconstruction to provide a large number of architectural basis.
4. The legend of Jiangxin Island and Babel Tower

According to legend, Jiangxin Island was transformed from a "treasure bowl". Once upon a time, there was a young fisherman couple on the Wu River who fished a worn-out tile bowl. At first, the couple saw this broken tile bowl and thought of throwing it back into the river, but later they were guided by the immortals, which was a treasure bowl that could fulfill people's wishes and conjure up rice cloth. A kind-hearted couple made a wish to the treasure bowl and distributed the conjured things to everyone. Who knows that the world is unpredictable, there is a vicious rich man to grab the treasure bowl, beat the couple to death and throw them into the river, and after the husband and wife die, they turn into a pair of male and female treasure ducks, inhabiting the oasis, just as Shaoguan folklore, for thousands of years, the flood rose by one foot, the male and female treasure ducks lifted the oasis a foot higher, and no matter how big the flood could not flood the oasis.
Of course, this is only a legend, and there is also a saying that the base of a collapsed ancient tower is left behind, and the era cannot be studied. However, to this day, some older generations of citizens and water residents still call the base of the pagoda "pagoda foot". The location of the Tower of Babel, the ancients from the feng shui is also exquisite.
