On April 25, Beijing time, Oakland University forward Trey Townsend announced on social media that he would transfer to the NCAA University of Arizona, the Horizon League's Player of the Year.

Townsend is from Oxford, Michigan, outside of Detroit, and he said he chose the University of Arizona after visiting Ohio State and Michigan University, and also considered Michigan State.

Townsend was one of the stars of the March Madness NCAA tournament, helping the University of Oakland, the No. 14 seed, to 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists against the University of Kentucky, the No. 3 seed, and in the second round of the round of 32, he scored 30 points and 13 rebounds in an overtime loss to North Carolina State.
