The Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court recently announced the first-instance verdict in Zhao Liuchao's intentional homicide case, ruling that Zhao Liuchao was sentenced to death for intentional homicide and deprived him of his lifelong political rights.
Detailed review: Zhao Liuchao and Zhou Mouxia have been married since 2011, but due to the breakdown of their relationship, they submitted a divorce application to the Civil Affairs Bureau of Pingyu County, Henan Province on July 7, 2023. Unfortunately, the situation deteriorated on the evening of July 30, when Zhou Mouxia and six relatives and friends met with Zhao Liuchao outside an industrial park in Guangzhou, Zhao Liuchao attacked with a sharp knife. The incident resulted in Zhou Mouxia dying on the spot, and four other people were injured to varying degrees.
Through the trial, the court found that Zhao Liuchao deliberately and illegally deprived others of their lives, and his actions resulted in the death of one person, minor injuries to one person, and minor injuries to three people. In view of the subjective viciousness of his crime and the cruelty of his actions, the court held that Zhao Liuchao's actions constituted the crime of intentional homicide and should therefore be severely punished.
During the sentencing process, more than 10 people, including some of the victims' families and Zhao Liuchao's relatives, attended the verdict. This verdict reflects the court's determination to crack down on serious crimes and the seriousness of the law.
