The hackers released the full source code of Twitch, saying it was retaliation for its inaction

EDIT: Left and right

Twitch, Amazon's main game streaming platform, is one of the most popular live streaming platforms in the world, with 2 million streamers and about 15 million viewers watching live streams on the platform every day.

A few days ago, a hacker anonymously leaked a 128G file on 4chan, which contained a large amount of sensitive data such as Twitch's source code and financial records, which the leakers said was a tribute to this summer's Hate attack on the Twitch platform.

The hacker's incident began with the Twitch platform's online tagging function, which may have been intended to label live content differently to help viewers better find the content they are interested in. However, the platform did not prepare corresponding protective measures, allowing this function to be used by extremists to launch hate attacks. Extremists use robots and automated scripts to make a lot of discriminatory and abusive comments against black people, LGBTQ groups, etc., making Twitch's environment muddy. This directly forced platform anchors to jointly protest Twitch's inaction, and Twitch also lost some anchors and viewers.

The file leaker put it this way:

"This community is a disgusting and toxic sinkhole, so to promote chaos and competition on live streaming platforms, we hacked them and leaked source code from 6,000 internal Git repositories in the first part of our files."

The file name published by the hackers is "twitch leaks part one" and includes the following:

All source code for Twitch

Comment on historical data

Financial details of Twitch creators for the last three years

Vapor, a competing project that has not yet released benchmarking Steam

Twitch's internal security tools

Proprietary SDK, in-house Amazon web service tools

The Twitch platform acknowledged the leak and said an investigation was underway to determine the severity of the incident. It's unclear how much data was stolen, and Twitch advises users to change their passwords and two-factor authentication.

Twitch then released an investigative report stating that the data breach was due to an error in a configuration change to Twitch's server, which was later accessed by a malicious third party. And announced that all streaming keys have been reset as a precautionary measure.

In addition to the impact of user churn and commercial leaks on Twitch, the leaked source code will continue to expose it to potential serious security risks.
