Sowing date and sowing method. Sowing seeds at the right time is one of the important measures to ensure high and stable yield of millet. Generally, it is advisable to sow seeds from April to early May (before and after the valley rains). The sowing methods include furrow sowing, flat cropping, and ridge cropping. Furrow sowing, also known as furrow or flat furrow planting, is used more on dry slopes, and the advantages are water retention, fertilizer retention, and soil retention.

Seeding and density. Millet sowing rate is generally about 0.8-1.0 kg/mu, and the depth is 3-5 cm. The seedlings per mu in dry land are generally about 4-50,000.

Field management

Preservation seedlings. Millet grains are small, seeds contain not much energy substances, if there is drought, it is easy to cause the field to lack seedlings and break the ridge, so it is necessary to strengthen field management. Generally, seedlings are checked and replanted when 2-3 leaves are released after emergence, and inter-seedling is determined when 5-6 leaves are released.

Kick the seedlings to promote growth. In the fields with good water and fertilizer conditions and vigorous seedling growth, seedlings should be pedaled in time. The seedling pedaling method is mainly to control fertilizer and water in time when millet seedlings are 2-3 leaves, deep cultivation, etc.

Cultivating and weeding. The tillage management of millet is mostly at the seedling stage, jointing stage and booting stage, generally 2-3 times. The first tillage was carried out in combination with millet seedlings, and the tillage mastered the techniques of shallow hoeing, fine crushing of soil clods and weeds. The second tillage was carried out during the jointing of millet seedlings and combined with irrigation and top dressing. Cultivating should be deep, and at the same time the soil should be cultivated. The third tillage is carried out before the sealing of millet seedlings, and the depth of tillage is generally 4-5 cm. In addition to weeding, high soil cultivation should be carried out at the same time to promote root development and prevent lodging.

Pest and disease control

After the millet seedlings are fixed, in case of drought climate, in order to prevent the rapid growth and reproduction of red spiders, dicofol spray is used for prevention and control. In case of rainy days and high humidity in the field, in order to prevent the reproduction of millet flies, pyrethroid insecticide spray control should be used.
