The day after the wedding, Ren lied that he was going to see a doctor in Xifeng District, Qingyang City, and never returned after leaving. In the days that followed, Ren continued to defraud Liu's father and son of more than 270,000 yuan many times, totaling more than 520,000 yuan.
After receiving the report, the Dingbian County Public Security Bureau immediately dispatched capable criminal investigation police forces to set up a special case team to quickly crack the case. After that, Ren met with unmarried men in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces many times through matchmaking, Ren concealed the fact that he was married and not divorced, claiming that he wanted to get married as soon as possible and would live a good life, was willing to sign an engagement agreement with the victim, and even said that he could hand over his household registration book to the victim for safekeeping.
After gaining the victim's trust, Ren first got all the negotiated bride price money on the grounds that he needed to collect a deposit for the engagement and that he was in a hurry to use the money, and then fabricated various reasons to "borrow money" from the victim, or directly asked for money. The victim was forced to compromise because the bride price had already been paid.
After investigation by the police of the special case team, it was found that the various reasons given by Ren when he asked the victim for money were fictitious, and the victims of Ren's suspected fraud case were basically older young people from poor rural families.
