Before apprenticeship, he had only practiced calligraphy, but had not learned painting. The old man said, "Okay! A piece of white paper is easy to dye." At that time, Wang Tianchi was working in Tianjin, and every half a month he would bring his homework to Beijing to ask the old man Baishi for advice, sometimes living in Beijing for three or four days, sometimes living for seven or eight days, and the teachers and students were inseparable day and night, and formed a deep affection.

Wang Tianchi is upright, modest and studious, and is deeply loved and appreciated by the old man Baishi. Every time the old man examined Wang Tianchi's work, he always looked at it one by one and commented on them one by one. For the better painted works, some improvisation brushstrokes were made up to demonstrate. Wang Tianchi apprenticed to Yue Yue, and the old man Baishi inscribed on Wang Tianchi's painting to encourage him. On the group photo of teachers and students, the old man Baishi even waved his pen and inscribed on the group photo: "This is Wang Tianchi, the waiter of the old man Baishi." Later, the old man Baishi also personally inscribed "Huangshan Grass House" for Wang Tianchi's studio. The old man Baishi loved Wang Tianchi very much, so that Wang Tianchi was greatly encouraged, and he practiced painting more diligently.

The old man Baishi also inscribed a poem and exhorted: "The iron fence has three rooms, and the pen is as busy as a farm tool." The inkstone cattle have not stopped, and the sunset shines on the east chamber. Wang Tianchi also knows the good intentions of the old man, that is, Gong and the teacher Yuan Yun, said: "Although the little calf is weak, he is busy learning and farming every day." Serving hard work and replacing hardship, how dare you lie in the east chamber. It shows that the teachers and students are affectionate, and there are more than ordinary disciples. This continued until 1947. This year, Qi Baishi went to Nanjing. Wang Tianchi returned to Jinan, Shandong Province to take care of his parents at home.
During the four years he served with Qi Baishi, Wang Tianchi was able to get in touch with Qi Baishi's paintings, coupled with the careful teaching of the old man Baishi, he knew Qi Baishi's brush and ink well, and often exchanged information with the Qi faction, becoming an important figure in Shandong to identify Qi Baishi's works. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, most of the calligraphy and painting works purchased by the Shandong Provincial Cultural Relics General Store and the Jinan Cultural Relics Store, including Qi Baishi, consulted Wang Tianchi's opinion.

In his later years, Wang Tianchi donated his life's paintings and calligraphy to the Jinan Municipal People's Government and the Longkou Government of his hometown in two batches, benefiting the township and being highly praised. He left only a few works for his family to keep.

Wisteria was painted in 1920 and is stamped: "Lao Ping Hard (Bai Wen), Qi Bai Shi (Bai Wen)". The paragraph is known as "Geng Shenchun, the old man of Baishi has passed through the capital gate". Qi Baishi's wisteria paintings can be divided into two phases in terms of style, the first and second phases, and the dividing line is about the early 20s when the "decay method" was implemented. In the early stage, he mainly studied the Eight Great Masters and Xu Wei, and his brushwork was thin and longitudinal, and the colors were light and elegant; in the later period, he mainly studied Wu Changshuo, and his brushwork was dignified and vigorous, and the colors were rich and bright. This "Wisteria" has no traces of Wu Changshuo's brushwork, which is the early style.
