According to the French newspaper Le Monde, the dangers of Chinese steel have become a trick in the US election campaign.
But what does the election have to do with China's steel? China's steel imports from the United States are less than 3 percent of its steel, and now it has to pay three times more tariffs. In fact, this is a trick he played in order to win votes in the steel state.
Therefore, Le Monde stresses that there is no lack of opportunism and even brazenness in Biden's speeches about Japan and China as a presidential candidate.
Why? because it's not a real issue. The U.S. imports very little steel from China, accounting for less than 3% of purchases at best. This is a figure given by the American Iron and Steel Institute, not a random search on the Internet.
