Laphroaig Distillery is the second oldest distillery on the Isle of Islay in Scotland, after Bowmore Distillery (founded in 1779), and is currently part of the Suntory Group. Founded by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston, the official date of establishment is 1815, and legend has it that the distillery was built around 1810 at the earliest.
In October 2023, Laphroaig officially announced the release of a new experimental whisky series - Elements, and the first liquor L1.0 was also launched. On October 26, 2023, a new set of Laphroaig whisky labels appeared online, and its corresponding wine is called Laphroaig Element 2.0 (hereinafter: L2.0). Obviously, L2.0 is the second wine in the Elements series. Originally, this account expected that L2.0 might be listed in October 2024, but unexpectedly, on April 23, 2024, Lafferg suddenly released L2.0.
"L2.0 is a different type of whisky from previous Raffrögers, and Laffrög has been able to obtain a richer flavour by extending the fermentation time of this wine. The L2.0 was distilled in a particularly cold January, and because the low temperature was conducive to long fermentation, we extended the fermentation process to exceed our 55-hour fermentation standard and ferment for up to 115 hours, almost double the fermentation time of regular Raffraffauer. The result is a more sweet, fruity, softer peaty whisky with a warm, smoky Islay single malt whisky."
L2.0 has no vintage, no age, matured in barrels of unknown shape, bottled in original barrel strength, with an alcohol content of 59.6% ABV and a capacity of 700ml. It is worth noting that this wine has an alcohol content of almost 60% ABV, which makes it highly playable.
