However, in 1986, less than 10 years after the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, the United States came to China with a few warships for a friendly visit.

The development of Sino-US relations

In 1986, the US fleet suddenly announced that it would visit China for a friendly visit, and this news was not small, after all, this was the first time that the US military took the initiative to visit the mainland since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States.
You must know that at this time, there is a big gap between China and the United States in all aspects, and exchanges between the two sides in the military field may be able to enhance the mainland's military strength, which is of great significance.
Therefore, the mainland attaches great importance to the US visit, and there are not many people who can take on this great task, and the experienced General Liu Huaqing and the commander of the North Sea Fleet, Ma Xinchun, are the best representatives.
As early as the age of 13, General Liu Huaqing had become a glorious soldier, fighting for his ideals and beliefs, and would meet the enemy's charge on the battlefield, and made many brilliant achievements.
For this visit, the mainland honor guard began rehearsing early, striving to show the most perfect posture, and we are also ready for the red carpet and so on, waiting for the arrival of the US warship.
For this reason, we also sent the "Dalian" warship, which can be said to have given the United States two sides, but what is unexpected is that the behavior of the United States has made Liu Huaqing feel very angry.
The first visit of a naval warship
It has been learned that the United States has sent a total of three warships on board for this military visit, carrying nearly 900 sailors, and the lineup can be described as very luxurious.
In most people's minds, the United States is either taking the visit very seriously or just to show off.
However, when these warships slowly sailed into the waters of Qingdao, Commander Ma Xinchun sensed that something was wrong, and he found that these warships were not full of flags in accordance with international practice, but simply hung a few flags.
You may not understand how important it is to fly a full flag, it is not only a naval tradition, but also a way to show the dignity and pride of the country.
If the warships of the visiting countries must abide by international rules when entering the territory of other countries, and flying full flags is a kind of respect for the sovereignty of the visiting countries, but the United States has not observed basic etiquette, is it too arrogant?
Seeing this situation, General Liu Huaqing was not calm for a moment, and hurriedly ordered the army to withdraw the honor guard and the red carpet, and asked the staff to send a message to the US fleet, not allowing them to enter the mainland port, and then added: "Come back after thinking about it!"
Good guy, it seems that General Liu Huaqing is really angry, but this should be done to deal with such an unreasonable American fleet.
The US ambassador was also shocked when he learned of the situation, after all, he had been arrogant for so many years, and he had never taken other countries seriously, so why was he suddenly blamed?
Obviously, the mainland's attitude is that the US fleet can only enter the mainland's ports after it has flown its communication flag.
The U.S. fleet knew that it was in the wrong, and decided to put down its position and promised to fly the full flag, but they felt that it would take a lot of time to fly the full flag, so they wanted to ask us for our opinion on whether we could enter the port first and then fly the full flag.
