In December 2023, the 2023 Academic Annual Conference and the 10th Academic Symposium of Chongqing Library Association were held in our district. The heads of more than 40 public libraries in the city and relevant representatives gathered together to discuss the high-quality development of librarianship.
Why did the high-level academic seminar land in the South Bank? This is inseparable from the construction results of the South Bank District in the field of public cultural services. Since the successful establishment of the fourth batch of national public cultural service system demonstration zones in 2021, the construction of public cultural services in Nan'an District has started an accelerated mode. In 2023, Nan'an District will successfully establish a national-level pilot project for the standardization of basic public cultural services, thus realizing the "double national standards" and "double demonstrations" in the construction of the public cultural service system.
In recent years, Nan'an District has continuously improved its demonstration construction capacity, increased infrastructure construction, vigorously implemented public cultural service projects, enriched the cultural supply of the masses, and continuously built and upgraded a number of "embedded" new reading spaces such as library branches, urban study rooms, and audio libraries. Up to now, there are 232 new "embedded" reading spaces in our district, covering 147 villages (communities) under the jurisdiction of 15 towns (streets), further meeting the reading needs of the masses and creating a strong atmosphere for reading for all.
In April this year, the "Scholarly Chongqing: National Reading Festival" selected the 2023 "Scholarly Chongqing" National Reading Series Recommendation Activities, and among the 100 recommended places, Nan'an District accounted for 8 seats, demonstrating the hard power and exemplary role of Nan'an District in promoting the construction of "Scholarly Chongqing", and further enhancing the confidence of Nan'an District's in-depth development of national reading.

Nan'an District's national reading work can be at the forefront of the city, largely thanks to the construction of the district library's general branch library system. The South Bank District is one of the first areas in the city to explore the library branch model. In 2011, our district began to explore the road of building a library branch system and completed relevant research reports. In October 2013, our district took the opportunity of successfully applying for the creation of the second batch of national public cultural service system demonstration projects - "Nan'an District Community Library Standardized Service" to build a three-level service system of "library + town (street) cultural station + village (community) service network", and further optimize book resources, so that the cultural book industry in the district ushered in new development opportunities. The "Research on Refined Service of Reading Promotion from the Perspective of the General Branch Library" declared by the District Library has also been approved as a scientific research project by the Library Association of China.
As an important implementation platform for national reading, Nan'an District Library currently has more than 100 book branches, which are "hidden" in various scenic spots, parks and communities on Nan'an...... Many library branches have novel design and elegant environment, and have both reading and other cultural and life service functions, which are unique cultural landscapes on the south coast. Taking the Qianfang Industrial Park branch of the district library as an example, it is located in the science and technology park, with a collection of more than 10,000 books.
Featured brand activities make reading "enjoyable reading"
On June 12, 2023, the "Poetry of the Twin Cities" Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Young Poets Dialogue Activity was held in the minority garden branch of the Nan'an District Library of Danzishi Old Street. On November 10, 2023, the Chengdu-Chongqing Writers' Creative Exchange Symposium was held in Longmenhao Street, where nearly 40 writers' representatives from the two places gathered in Nan'an to discuss the development of Chengdu-Chongqing literary career. On April 22, 2024, at the launching ceremony of national reading in Nan'an District, Li Junhu, chairman of the Shanxi Writers Association, gave a wonderful open class on literature. And Li Junhu has also worked in Sichuan, has been to Chongqing 4 times, and has a deep affection for Chongqing's landscape and culture.
Why are the literary activities of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities so favored by the South Bank?
In 2021, the Chongqing National Reading Kick-off Activity and the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-City Reading Linkage Activity will be launched in our district, and at the same time, the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-City Literary Exchange Base will be established in the Nanbin Road Cultural Industry Park, comprehensively contributing to the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-City Economic Circle. So far, the literary exchanges and reading activities in Nan'an District have also begun to bear the imprint of Sichuan and Chongqing and the flavor of Bashu.
With the in-depth development of various literary exchanges and reading activities, the national reading in Nan'an District has played a continuous role in promoting the construction of "Scholarly South Bank". It is understood that since 2018, under the guidance of the Propaganda Department of the District Party Committee, the District Culture and Tourism Committee and other departments, the District Library has continued to build its own reading brand, carry out national reading promotion, and guide citizens to fully experience the joy of reading and make reading "enjoyable" in combination with important time nodes such as 4.23 World Book Day, National Reading Month, Library Service Publicity Week, and important activities in the city. A series of national reading brands and activities, such as Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Literary Exchange, Literature Open Class, South Shore Reading Star, Scholarly South Shore Hongyan Youth, Four Seasons Children's Reading, etc., are like flowers, making the reading of the whole people in the South Coast "flourishing" and continuing to exude the unique elegance of "Scholarly South Bank".
