On April 24, the first pure electric production model of the G-class off-road vehicle family, the all-new Mercedes-Benz pure electric G-class off-road vehicle, ushered in its world debut.

The all-new all-electric G-Class SUV retains the family's boxy shape and recognizable round headlights, and retains the well-known off-road trio in the electric era: an electric virtual differential lock, a non-load-bearing body, and an electric low-speed off-road transmission. It also features Mercedes-Benz's forward-looking intelligent electric drive system – four independently controllable wheel motors and four electric two-speed gearboxes, with high-precision torque vectoring control, bringing millisecond response to any wheel.

Since then, Mercedes-Benz has officially realized the mass production electrification of all brands. At the same time, the all-new Mercedes-Benz G 500 and the all-new Mercedes-AMG G 63 made their debut in the Chinese market.

Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Directors and Chief Technology Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and responsible for R&D and purchasing, said: "In the face of customers' expectations and yearning for the new era of hard-core off-roading, the first all-electric production model of the G-Class off-road vehicle family, the all-new all-electric G-Class off-road vehicle, came into being. Its forward-looking electric drive technology, complemented by an upgraded interior atmosphere and a luxurious digital experience, further enhances the vehicle's off-road performance and comfort, making it the ultimate choice for off-road and urban travel. ”

The classic aesthetic of the G-class car The family's traditional off-road three-piece set

The all-new all-electric G-Class off-road vehicle continues the pure family genes and brings the classic aesthetic of the G-Class into the electric era. The signature box-shaped shape, classic round headlights, trapezoidal turn signals on the bonnet, and uniquely shaped door handles, as well as the door closing sound unique to G-Class off-road vehicles, bring an exclusive sense of ritual to the off-road journey.

The new car features a black panel radiator grille surrounded by illuminated LED strips that provide innovative dynamics when unlocking and locking the vehicle. The slightly raised hood, A-pillar and roof spoiler have all been aerodynamically optimised to further enhance the off-road vehicle's driving efficiency. At the rear, the new tool-containing decorative box restores the classic spare wheel cover design while further enhancing practicality.

The all-new all-electric G-Class off-road vehicle inherits the family's traditional off-road three-piece set: electric virtual differential lock, non-load-bearing body and electric low-speed off-road gear, continuing the 100% climbing ability of the G-Class off-road vehicle when fully loaded. Among them, the family-style non-load-bearing body adopts double wishbone independent suspension on the front axle, and the rear axle adopts a rigid axle independently developed for the electric drive system. After the chassis has been fully upgraded, the double-layer battery pack is optimized and embedded in the trapezoidal frame to achieve a low center of gravity layout of the vehicle.

The all-new all-electric G-Class off-road vehicle is equipped with four independent wheel motors, combined with the intelligent torque vectoring function, to achieve an "electric virtual differential lock" to ensure millisecond-level response to each wheel. The intelligent control system with automatic locking provides full steering capability even in off-road mode. Even if only one wheel has grip, the vehicle continues to provide the ability to get out of trouble. Equipped with an electric two-speed gearbox, the all-new all-electric G-Class off-road vehicle can achieve electric low-speed off-road transmission, and the drive torque is increased by a 2:1 gear ratio, maintaining the power output in the low-speed and high-torque operating range.

High-speed in-situ steering on flat ground with a peak torque of up to 1164 Nm

Four independently controllable wheel motors paired with an electric two-speed gearbox deliver 432 kW of peak power and 1,164 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds.

With a minimum ground clearance of up to 250 mm, the all-new all-electric G-Class still achieves 100% (45 degrees) of climbing ability and roll stability at 35 degrees. The 850 mm wading depth is 150 mm higher than that of the gasoline model, and the wading capacity is further improved. The ESP® is an electronically controlled vehicle driving system that accurately distributes power and braking forces to provide excellent driving stability.

The "off-road crawl" mode can intelligently control the vehicle to choose forward or backward in the process of climbing or descent in 3 ways of cruise control, while the driver only needs to hold the steering wheel and focus on the driving route. It can travel at a speed of 2 or 8 km/h at a fixed speed and exit at any time when intervening in acceleration or braking, and can increase the speed to a maximum of 14 km/h when changing gears and exit when braking.

The "G-STEERING" function locks the inside rear wheel with the wheel side motor, significantly reducing the turning radius of the new all-electric G-Class off-road vehicle, helping the vehicle to pass the extreme hairpin curves with more ease. The "G-TURN" U-turn function uses four motors to control the wheels on both sides to rotate in reverse, making it easy to turn on the spot at high speed on flat ground, helping the driver to easily return to the road before the extreme dead-end road. It is reported that in 2009, Mercedes-Benz had the technology of turning around on the spot, and it was not until today that it was really installed on the mass-produced electric big G.

The driver can open the "Digital Off-Road Cockpit" interface, and obtain professional real-time data including level, compass, altitude, front and rear wheel steering angle, torque, power, tire pressure, etc. through the digital instrument screen and central control screen, so that driving control is under control. The "Real-time Off-Road Image" function, combined with a 360-degree camera, shows the road surface under the front hood on the center display, helping the driver clearly judge the road conditions and make the best route selection in time.

In addition, the all-new pure electric G-class off-road vehicle provides an exclusive sound experience for the electric era, and fully releases the passion of off-road with a unique sound, and provides two exclusive special effects sounds: "aura" and "event".

One charge is equivalent to climbing Mount Everest

The all-new all-electric G-Class off-road vehicle is equipped with a 12-module battery pack with a usable power of 116 kWh, giving it a range of approximately 570 km in CLTC mode. From Beijing, it only takes one charge to reach the foot of Mount Tai. At the same time, the vehicle supports DC fast charging with a maximum power of 200 kW, which can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 32 minutes.

The outer protective layer of the battery is resistant to water, dust and stone splashing. The body guards, supported by patented lightweight composite materials, are extremely corrosion-resistant and weigh only 57.6 kilograms, which is one-third the weight of steel and aluminium of the same shape, but even more rigid. An efficient battery management system consisting of 3 active cooling layers keeps the vehicle at an optimal operating temperature in all operating conditions.

Before its official debut, the all-new all-electric G-Class off-road vehicle underwent the family's rigorous off-road testing. Like every generation of G-Class off-road vehicles, the all-electric G-Class prototype underwent 336 ascent tests on the Austrian Sjöcker Mountains, each of which had to traverse an extreme outdoor proving ground at an altitude of 1,445 meters, with a gradient of up to 60 percent and a roll gradient of up to 40 percent.

It is worth mentioning that it can go back and forth to the summit of Sherkel 14 times on a single charge, which is equivalent to climbing Mount Everest once. Not only that, but the prototype test vehicle also crossed the treacherous Perpignan plain and defied the extreme cold of Sweden.

The vehicle is equipped with the second-generation MBUX intelligent human-machine interaction system as standard, as well as a 12.3-inch high-definition instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen. Keyless entry allows owners to unlock without a key. Compared with its predecessor in the G-Class, the all-new all-electric G-Class optimizes the speaker layout of the Burmester® 3D surround sound system, adds 6 new channels, and adds a speaker with ambient lighting to the headliner, paired with Dolby Atmos ®, bringing an immersive audio-visual feast like a concert hall. The "Mind Reading Voice Assistant" has been fully upgraded, with some functions supporting wake-up word-free activation, and more than 20 G-level exclusive voice commands.
