Recently, an exhibition of Shanghai-style carving inheritance works with the theme of "Yanshan Legacy" kicked off at the Changning District Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center. In addition, 19 disciples led by Wu Baoping also brought their works to participate in the exhibition, presenting an intangible cultural heritage "feast" jointly created by three generations of Shanghai carving craftsmen.
Walking into the exhibition hall on the second floor of the south of the Changning District Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, a piece of exquisite carving works presented in front of the reporter, according to Wu Baoping, a master of arts and crafts in Shanghai, the exhibition is mainly based on inkstone carving, which is a very representative work created by himself and his teacher Li Tiemin, his junior brother Chen Yinran, and many disciples.
"The works in this exhibition are carefully selected from our teachers and students, in addition to inkstone carving, we also brought a variety of carving forms of art such as purple sand pottery carving, bamboo carving, lacquer carving, etc., with a total of nearly 100 pieces on display. Wu Baoping said, "These works are not only handicrafts, but also represent the inheritance and expression of traditional Shanghai-style carving skills, and at the same time, we have also incorporated many innovative elements into their creation, so that they have a more connotative charm in the context of the new era." ”
Shanghai as a city that embraces all rivers, its breeding of Shanghai style carving is a school of art that has a profound impact on Chinese sculpture culture, known for its unique Shanghai style of humanities and artistic style, Shanghai arts and crafts master Li Tiemin, who is famous for his inkstone carving works, said, " Although there is no inkstone in Shanghai, materials from all over the country are gathered in Shanghai, so artists in Shanghai can come into contact with inkstones and art schools from all over the country, and integrate and innovate by constantly absorbing the strengths of each school, so as to achieve the long-term development of Shanghai-style inkstone carving and other carving techniques. ”
"The most gratifying thing is that in recent years, we have also been able to see more and more young people joining in the learning of carving skills, compared with our traditional craftsmen, they are exposed to more new things, more innovative spirit, which will surely bring a very positive impetus for us to carry forward the profound Chinese excellent traditional culture and enhance cultural self-confidence." Li Tiemin said.
