The new M5 has been officially launched recently, with three configuration models and a price range of 249,800 to 279,800 yuan. The new model is positioned as a high-profile urban performance SUV and will be available in the RS version for the first time, with mass deliveries scheduled to begin on May 15. Yu Chengdong, Executive Director of Huawei, emphasized at the press conference that the new M5 integrates Huawei's latest intelligent driving technology, youthful design, reliable active safety performance, and excellent comprehensive car experience, and is especially suitable for young people as the first smart SUV.
The new M5 comes in Cosmopolitan Red and Tahitian Grey colourways, while the RS variant features an obsidian badge, obsidian window moldings, obsidian sports wheels and red calipers. In terms of interior, the whole series has been upgraded to Shuyun seats made of the same material as the M9, which improves softness and support. The new car is also equipped with a large sunscreen panoramic canopy with a UV blocking rate of more than 99.9%, as well as two 50W wireless super fast charging and three 66W wired super fast charging functions.
In terms of intelligent configuration, the new M5 is equipped with the HUAWEI ADS 2.0 high-end intelligent driving system as standard, which has high-speed and high-end intelligent driving capabilities in urban areas that do not rely on high-precision maps. The urban NCA pilot has covered more than 40,000+ urban and rural areas, the average mileage of manual takeover has increased to 270km+, and the success rate of urban elevated inward and outward remittance has reached 99.2%.
In terms of performance, the new M5 adopts Huawei's self-developed HUAWEI DATS 2.0 dynamic adaptive torque system, as well as front four-ball head double wishbones, rear multi-link independent suspension and all-aluminum alloy chassis, with a measured braking distance of 35.58m at 100-0km/h and an elk test score of 79km/h.
In terms of energy consumption, the new M5 has a comprehensive range of up to 1,440 km and a pure electric range of up to 255 km under the CLTC mode.
In terms of safety performance, the new M5 adopts a cage-type safety body structure, with high-strength steel accounting for more than 60% and submarine-grade hot-stamping steel accounting for 19.5%. The forward, side, and rear omnidirectional collision avoidance systems have been upgraded to improve the AEB braking speed and the effective range of lateral and backward collision avoidance.
In addition, Huawei's STELATO brand with BAIC has also been officially announced, and its first model, the S9, is positioned as an executive-class luxury sedan, which is scheduled to be unveiled at the 2024 Beijing International Auto Show.
The sales volume of all Hongmeng Zhixing products has reached 105,000 units this year, ranking first among the new power car brands.
At present, the competition in the mid-level SUV class where the new M5 is located is very fierce, and many new forces have listed this class as the main model, or even the first model. The main competitors are Model Y, Li L6, Xpeng G6, etc., and the starting price of the M6 is even the same as that of the Li L6 that was launched first.
