The Yellow Sea is separated from the Bohai Sea in the northwest by the line from Penglai Jiao at the northern end of the Shandong Peninsula to Laotieshan Jiao at the southern end of the Liaodong Peninsula. To the south, it is separated from the East China Sea by the line between the Qidong Point of Qidong City, Jiangsu Province, north of the Yangtze River estuary, and the southwest corner of Jeju Island in South Korea.

The East China Sea is connected to the Yellow Sea to the north and the South China Sea to the south by the line connecting Nanao Island in Guangdong Province and Eluanbi at the southern tip of Taiwan Island in the south.

The South China Sea is located in the southern part of the mainland, bordered by Kalimantan Island in the Greater Sunda Islands to the south, the Philippine Islands to the east, and the Indochina Peninsula and the Malay Peninsula to the west.
