One side of the water and soil nourishes one side of the people. Pingtang Village, Zhaiwei Town, has a large village and a long history, as if every stone and every brick and tile tells the vicissitudes of the past.
There are many old houses in the village, which have gone through wind and rain and witnessed the passage of time. Those old houses, which used to be the places where our ancestors worked hard and lived and reproduced, have gradually lost their former prosperity. Many villagers have moved out, built new ones, or moved to more prosperous places in search of a better life. And those old houses that stayed behind, under the erosion of the years, gradually collapsed and turned into pieces of ruins.
However, for those of us who used to live here, the old house is not only a pile of bricks and tiles, but also a deep longing in our hearts. In the dead of night, when the moonlight shines all over the land, I always think of those old houses. They may have changed beyond recognition, but in my mind, they are still as clear as yesterday.
I miss the old house, not because of nostalgia for my hometown, but because there are too many memories and stories for us. Every old house carries our laughter and tears, and records our growth and changes. Even though the years have passed, even if the old house has collapsed, those memories and stories will always be engraved in our hearts.
The collapse of the old house may be an inevitability. But that longing will never fade away. It is like a clear spring flowing in our hearts and nourishing our souls. Whenever I think of those old houses, I always feel an inexplicable kindness and warmth.
Now, I have left Pingtang Village, but the longing for the old house has always been with me. I believe that no matter where I go, no matter how many ups and downs I go through, that miss will become the most precious treasure in my heart.
Although the old houses in Pingtang Village have collapsed, they are still standing in my heart. They are a part of my life, memories and thoughts that I will remember and miss forever.
