BSK Bangladesh, a joint venture between the Netherlands and Bangladesh, announced an investment of US$6.14 million in a production project in the Cumilla Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Bangladesh.
It is understood that the company will produce 3 million leather goods per year, including handbags, backpacks, travel bags, wallets and trolley cases. This represents 1,302 new jobs.
The company signed an agreement with the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA), which urged investors to start construction as soon as possible.
BEPZA Executive Chairman Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman wants investors to invite their Dutch friends to invest more in Bangladesh.
The tanning faucet will build a new factory
Xingye Leather Technology, a China-based tanning company, is expanding its presence in Asia outside of China with two new production sites.
The company is building a new leather finishing plant in Vietnam and a new tannery and leather waste treatment plant in Cianjur, Indonesia. It is understood that the finishing plant in Vietnam will be completed in July 2024, while the tannery in Cianjur will be completed after that.
Xingye Leather Technology Co., Ltd. is headquartered in Jinjiang City, Fujian Province, China, Xingye focuses on the research and development, production and sales of high-end natural cattle head leather products, and has formed a product layout based on three categories, including nappa leather series, natural wrestling leather series and special effect leather series, which are widely used in leather apparel industry, leather goods and luggage industry, furniture industry and other fields, and have won the respect and favor of domestic and foreign brand enterprises.
Stahl's carbon intensity has been significantly reduced
Stahl, the leather chemicals group, reduced its carbon intensity by 22%. The group published this information in its 2023 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report on April 18.
The company achieved a reduction in its scope-one and scope-two emissions in 2023 compared to 2022.
Highlights of the report also include the fact that Stahl has now conducted life cycle assessment (LCA) studies for more than 350 products. The company also said that 70% of its revenue in 2023 came from the sale of products, which are all ZDHC Level 3 (the highest level) certified.
