At first, reading books was about watching and playing, and to put it bluntly, they were watching, not reading. Because I was illiterate when I was a child, I could only read and draw. Once, I happened to see a neighbor's child buy a villain book, and a group of people surrounded him, all widening their eyes and stretching their necks, and they were looking at it intently.
I'm curious, what's so fascinating. It turned out to be a comic book, with colorful pictures and words, vivid and interesting.
Decades have passed, and the title of that comic book has long since been forgotten, but the pictures of that book that I saw left a deep impression on me.
Then, in February 1969, I was in the first grade of elementary school. The school gave each person two books, one in Chinese and one in arithmetic. It was the first time I had a book of my own.
Holding the new book with the scent of paper and oil foam in his hand, I couldn't help but close my eyes and take a deep breath of that special book fragrance with my nose, and I felt very excited.
I held my book in my hand and secretly made up my mind that I must study hard, study hard, and get good grades.
When I went to school, from 1969 to 1976, when I graduated from junior high school, during the Cultural Revolution, I often participated in critical activities. Criticism of Lin, Kong, and Deng, anti-imperialism, anti-revisionism, anti-feudalism, and anti-capitalist roaders were all filled with a strong smell of gunpowder. From time to time, he also went to the production team to do farm work, received re-education from poor and middle peasants, and did not particularly care about reading and studying. In retrospect, apart from suffering a little flesh and blood and delaying precious study time, how can there be any re-education? Not forgetting class sufferings and remembering blood and tears will only strain relations between people.
In those days, in addition to being playful, I accidentally developed a hobby of reading. At first, I didn't have any purpose in reading, I just got bored and went to read to kill time. What I didn't expect was that reading books could be addictive, and as long as I borrowed a book, I would read it hungrily. My mind is completely immersed in the atmosphere of the book. Whether it's day or night, you won't be able to let go of it. The scope of reading has also expanded from storybooks to famous books. No matter what type of book you borrow, as long as you borrow it, you can read it page by page.
At that time, my family was relatively poor, and I couldn't afford to buy books, so I had to borrow them from others if I wanted to read them. On the special days of the 10th year of the Cultural Revolution, I spent almost all of my time wandering around reading idle books.
At that time, I just thought that reading books could relieve my boredom, but I never thought that most of the books I read at that time would have an immeasurable impact on my success in the college entrance examination, my future growth path, and even the formation of my personality, hobbies, and handling style.
Looking back now, the books I have read, the roads I have walked, and the people I have met have naturally formed my own open-minded and cheerful character, walking with excellent people, and being with people with positive energy. also decided that after the resumption of the college entrance examination, he could stand out among many peers and be named on the gold list.
I finally got out of a poor family in the countryside and changed my living situation of not having enough food and clothing. I came to work in the city, and since then I have lived a happy life without worrying about food and clothing, and recently I have come to a beautiful country in a distant foreign country because of taking care of my children.
So is your life considered a success?
If I look at it by relying on my own efforts to change my destiny, I am a success.
If you compare it with my classmates, they are in the classroom, prosperous in official fortune, famous, and rich, but I am just an ordinary ordinary person. According to this standard, we are a nameless person, an incompetent person. What about success or failure?

My biggest experience of reading is that when you study seriously, you will definitely set an example for your children to love learning, intentionally or unintentionally. Teaching by example is more important than teaching, and it is a truth that cannot be broken.
