Pan Tianshou wrote the most taboo works of trivial and flat plates in his life, believing that "the text seems to look at the mountains and does not like the flat", and the same should be true for painting; poetry should not be ignored when there is a difference, and the text should be subdued and frustrated, and the painter should also have whimsical ideas and artistic skills.
He said: "We must be humble in learning, we must be 'conceited' in painting, we must be bold, we must hold our breath and grasp the key points, and we must think from a big place, a high place, and a new place. The most valuable is the law, rather than sticking to the rules and bounding oneself. To depict nature, we must also take advantage of the momentum in the movement, and see the strange in the change. Flat as water, in case of danger stone, silver flowers splash everywhere, heavy as a mountain, around the white clouds and the whole body is spiritual. ”
Pan Tianshou advocated that the arrangement of flower and bird paintings should be based on potential, he said: "The atmosphere should be strong, the momentum should be vigorous, and strive to create vigorous and flexible vitality and rhythmic charm on the picture, so as to achieve the unique vividness of Chinese painting." ”
As for the method of arrangement, he believes that it is to "search all the strange peaks to make drafts", and select the strange peaks with the strange peaks, that is, to match the strange peaks and win by surprise.
"Creating danger" can make people frightened, but if the danger is in the end, there is the risk of "sacrifice", only if you can "break the danger", you can survive in a desperate situation, take it by surprise, and take the danger out, which is surprising.
Pan Tianshou "creates risks" and "breaks risks", which can be said to be well versed in this principle. "The mountains and rivers are poor and there is no way out", it seems that there is no way to go here, but "the willows and flowers are bright and another village", there is a world in front of them, which makes people open-minded.
