On April 23, the much-talked-about new Wenjie M5 was finally officially launched, and the new car was launched in three configuration models, with the price of the extended range version being 249,800-279,800 yuan, and the pure electric version being priced at 269,800 yuan. Compared with the 2023 Wenjie M5, the model configuration has been greatly simplified, and the whole system is equipped with Huawei ADS high-end intelligent driving as standard, and the price of the old intelligent driving version has been reduced by 2-30,000 yuan.
In terms of appearance, the new M5 has not changed much overall, only the front face shape of the extended range version has been adjusted, and the closed grille is the same as that of the pure electric version.
The rest of the design is the same as that of the previous model, with flat, angled headlight clusters embedded on either side of the front end, hooked daytime running light strips integrated inside, and a trapezoidal lower grille and a "C" shaped air duct in the front bumper as an important way to enhance the sporty look. LiDAR is still placed in the center of the roof, combined with the sensor components at the fenders, to provide hardware support for high-end intelligent driving.
The side of the body is spacious, with a Porsche Macan look, combined with large blacked-out wheels and red brake calipers, which effectively enhance the sporty attributes. The rear view of the car is short and round, the through-type taillight cluster has a family-oriented design style, the rear bumper part is a large area of black decoration, and the bottom does not forget to add a diffuser shape, once again emphasizing the sporty positioning.
In terms of dimensions, the length, width and height of the new car are 4770/1930/1625, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2880mm, positioning it as a mid-size SUV. In terms of body color, in addition to the old model of ceramic white, gilt black, azure blue and other colors, two new colors have been added, Tahitian gray and Metropolis red.
The interior part has not changed much, and the large-size floating central control screen is still used as the main interactive screen, with a small-size full-LCD instrument cluster and a HUD head-up display, forming a three-screen system. The steering wheel has a double-spoke flat-bottom structure, and the grip ring is thick but the disc width is small, which makes it quite individual. The mid-island area offers a crystal-cube shift knob, and the wireless charging panel and open cup holder are naturally not absent.
It should be noted that the center tweeter of the new M5 has been replaced with the same star ring diffuser as the M9, which integrates 128 colors of music rhythm atmosphere light strip and HUAWEI SOUND speaker, which can improve sound quality and interactivity.
In terms of power, the extended-range version is equipped with a 1.5T range extender with a maximum power of 152 horsepower, and is matched with a single motor to form a two-wheel drive version with a comprehensive system output of 200kW/360Nm, and a dual-motor version to form a four-wheel drive version with a comprehensive system output of 365kW/675Nm. It is matched with a 42kWh ternary lithium battery pack provided by CATL, with a CLTC pure electric range of 255km and 230km respectively.
The pure electric version is only available for the rear-wheel drive version, and the motor parameters are the same as those of the extended range version, with a maximum power of 200kW and a peak torque of 360Nm, matched with an 83kWh ternary lithium battery pack, and a CLTC range of 602km.
The new M5 has not changed much in terms of appearance, mainly the upgrade of intelligent cockpit and intelligent driving, and the product strength has been further improved. However, the official adjustment of the high-end intelligent driving system to the standard configuration, this move is a little radical in the eyes of the car player, first of all, limited by the high cost of sensors such as lidar, the price can not be further explored, and it looks out of place in the medium-sized car market with fierce involution.
