When researchers from the Chishui River Station of the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences carried out the monitoring of fish resources in the Chishui River this year, they once again monitored the rare fish "eel" that had disappeared for more than 20 years.

In recent years, Guizhou has vigorously implemented six major projects, namely, "protecting the lake by law, returning the city to the lake, returning the village to the lake, returning farmland to the lake, controlling pollution and cleaning the lake, and afforestation and culvert lake" to promote the continuous improvement of the ecology of Caohai.
According to statistics, the number of grass sea bird species has increased from 220 in 2016 to 246 species. The number and variety of migratory birds are increasing year by year, and the number of black-necked cranes that fly over the winter every year continues to stabilize at about 2,000.
The ecological changes of Caohai are inseparable from the role of coordinating the integrated protection and restoration of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands and sands. In Caohai North Slope Park, shrubs and ground cover plants that are green all year round conserve water, forming a natural green barrier between the city and Caohai Lake. Through decades of exploration, Nanming River has pioneered the systematic planning and governance concept of "moderate concentration, on-site treatment, and nearby reuse", forming an innovative technology system of "distributed sinking reclaimed water ecosystem" in the city, and 33 reclaimed water plants have been built along the main and tributaries of the river, and 185 kilometers of river ecological restoration have been constructed.
