Especially when it was learned that China was researching nuclear weapons, planes from the United States and Chiang came very frequently. Chiang Jun also set up the 35th Squadron of the Air Force in the name of the Air Force Meteorological Group.
Selling dog meat on sheep's heads, their work has nothing to do with meteorology, but is actually to cooperate with the CIA to carry out high-altitude night electronic reconnaissance missions deep into Chinese mainland's airspace.
Because there is a black cat on the team's logo of the department, it is also called the "Black Cat Squadron", and those who can enter it must first go to the United States for training, which belongs to the ace pilots of Jiang Jun.
Of course, the enemy is so well prepared, and our side is not unprepared, the US and Chiang planes have been shot down a lot, and a pilot of the Black Cat squadron, Zhang Liyi, was also captured and lived on the mainland for more than 20 years.
So, how did Zhang Liyi's life on the mainland go, and what was the outcome later?
Zhang Liyi was born in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province in 1929, and when he was 8 years old, the Japanese invaded China.
He was relatively lucky, and escaped with his mother and wandered all the way to Chongqing, but his father was tragically killed by the Japanese in the Nanjing Massacre.
The hatred of the country and the family made the young Zhang Liyi want to join the army to serve the country. At the age of 14, he was admitted to the fourth phase of the Kuomintang Air Force Infant School and began to receive systematic military education.
The Air Force does not have a short training cycle like the Army, so Zhang Liyi did not wait for the opportunity to go into battle to avenge his father. When the Kuomintang was defeated on the mainland, Zhang Liyi moved to Donggang, Taiwan, with the school, and later entered the Gangshan Air Force Military Academy in Taiwan.
In 1951, Zhang Liyi was selected to go to the United States for training because of his outstanding performance, and became the first batch of F-84 jet fighter pilots of the Taiwan Provincial Air Force.
When he returned to Taiwan Province, he was often ordered to carry out arduous tasks, and because of his good accomplishment, he was received by Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Ching-kuo many times. In 1963, Zhang Liyi was sent to the United States to learn to fly the U2 reconnaissance aircraft, and after returning to Taiwan, he joined the Black Cat squadron.
In the years that followed, he made several missions to the mainland, until the evening of January 10, 1965, when it became the last. On the same day, Zhang Liyi took off from Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan Province to prepare for a night infrared photographic reconnaissance of the Great Northwest Nuclear Base.
He first flew low in the open sea, evaded radar surveillance, and then suddenly rose to 20,000 meters, passed through Qingdao and Jinan, and went straight to Baotou.
At about 9:30 p.m., the U2 reconnaissance plane piloted by Zhang Liyi had already flown to Baotou, and he thought that the trip would be very smooth, but the first ground-to-air missile battalion of the PLA Air Force had already set his sights on him.
Wang Lin, commander of the first battalion, gave the order to launch, but Zhang Liyi, who was unprepared, was unable to dodge, and the U2 reconnaissance plane was hit. Although Zhang Liyi said that he escaped at the last moment, he was also injured, and in panic, he ran around without a clue and was finally captured.
The People's Liberation Army (PLA) has always been lenient in its policy in this regard, and sent him to the Air Force Hospital for treatment as soon as possible, but Zhang Liyi was very frightened, because after all, Taiwan Province had carried out a series of demonizing propaganda, and he believed that he would not be able to escape death.
But when he came into contact with the Communists, those lies were self-defeating. When he was first sent to Beijing, his legs were severely frostbitten, and the doctors tried their best to save his legs.
On the first day of the Lunar New Year, the leaders of the Air Force also brought food and fruits to the hospital to greet him for the New Year, and returned the high-end aviation watch that he had lost when he parachuted. In order not to affect Zhang Liyi's relatives in Taiwan, the organization also kept his information confidential.
Zhang Liyi was particularly moved by all kinds of courtesies, and wrote in his diary: I am ashamed of them treating me like this, and this kind of treatment is something I dare not imagine in Taiwan.
On the other hand, on the Taiwan side, although it was learned from secret channels that Zhang Liyi was being treated, in order to stabilize the morale of the army, he still claimed that Zhang Liyi had "become a benevolent", and also built a tomb for him, and Zhang Liyi's wife in Taiwan later chose to remarry.
Zhang Liyi had no way to learn about the other side at this time, and after recovering, he was also placed under house arrest for a period of time. There is no way, his identity is sensitive after all, and it is impossible for him to fly the plane of the People's Liberation Army.
It was not until 1970 that Premier Zhou approved the release of Zhang Liyi, granted citizenship, and first resettled in the mainland to engage in productive labor, so as to facilitate continued transformation.
Out of the need for secrecy, the central authorities did not announce the news of his release, but only arranged for him to return to Nanjing to reunite with his mother, brothers and sisters.
The organization took good care of Zhang Liyi, and as soon as he arrived in the countryside, he built two houses for him, and he had never done farm work since he was a child, so he arranged to drive a tractor and a pumping machine to irrigate the farmland.
He himself felt that he couldn't go and rushed to do heavy work, with an average of 330 workers a year, which was the most in the production team. In 1975, Zhang Liyi entered Nanjing Steel Sleeve Factory and became a fitter.
In 1981, Zhang Liyi grew from an ordinary worker to the deputy leader of the internship team of the internship factory of Nanjing Institute of Aeronautics, and acquired another new survival skill.
On August 25, 1982, with the relaxation of cross-strait relations, the People's Daily reported for the first time the news that Zhang Liyi and another pilot, Ye Changdi, had been captured, and announced that they planned to approve their return to Taiwan to visit relatives.
However, the Taiwan side insisted that the two pilots had "become benevolent" and did not admit that they were Zhang Liyi and Ye Changdi, resulting in the two being stranded in Hong Kong.
According to the policy of freedom of coming, the mainland told Ye that if they could not return to Taiwan smoothly, they were still welcome to return. The position and salary remain unchanged. It's just that Zhang and Ye have become families in Taiwan, and they also want to see their wives and children.
In embarrassment, the CIA reached out to the two. Because Zhang Liyi and Ye Changdi had both received training from the CIA, the United States helped them settle in the United States and applied for a resettlement fund of hundreds of thousands of dollars, which is very humane.
It was not until 1990, after Chiang Ching-kuo's death, that Zhang Liyi and Ye Changdi returned to Taiwan Province. It is worth mentioning that Zhang Liyi's feelings are also very moving.
He married his wife Zhang Jiaqi in 1956 and had two sons and a daughter. After the accident in 1965, she took care of her three children by herself, she was very haggard, and many people introduced her again, but she did not accept it.
It was eight years after Zhang Liyi's "martyrdom" that Zhang Jiaqi was willing to marry a Mr. He who worked in Taiwan's administrative organs. But before marriage, Zhang Jiaqi clearly mentioned that if Zhang Liyi came back one day, she would remarry her ex-husband. Mr. Ho agreed.
In 1990, Zhang Liyi returned to Taiwan, and Mr. He did what he said and chose to be fulfilled. In April 1991, Zhang Liyi and Zhang Jiaqi remarried. These three people are very loyal to their feelings.
In his later years, Zhang Liyi lived with his wife and children, and died of illness in 2003. Originally, he was also a top talent, but he was wrapped in the torrent of the times, so that he encountered great twists and turns, but fortunately, this ending was a happy one.
