Huang Yuanshen, originally from Chongqing, was born in Shanghai on December 2, 1948, and has five younger siblings.
When Wong was 1 year old, he moved to Hong Kong with his parents, and the family lived in Tiu Keng Leng in Kowloon. Huang's parents did not have a regular job and supported the family by working part-time jobs.

In 1975, Huang Yuanshen and Taiwanese movie star Shi Qianyu registered their marriage in Hong Kong. Shi Qianyu is 7 years younger than Huang Yuanshen, made her model debut, and later entered the film and television industry to film.
After marriage, the couple gave birth to a son and a daughter: son Huang Jiliang was born on September 13, 1976, and daughter Huang Jili was born on September 16, 1980.

After years of hard work, Huang Yuanshen has accumulated a rich net worth and is getting more and more tired of filming. In 1987, in order to allow his children to receive a better education, Huang Yuanshen moved to the United States with his wife and children.
Subsequently, Huang Yuanshen took his parents to the United States to settle down and supported his parents in their old age alone.
Huang Yuanshen did not speak English well, and after coming to the United States, he went to an elementary school to study English, and the school let him start in the third grade of primary school.

In November 1989, Huang Yuanshen announced to his family his decision to become a monk. When the elderly parents heard this, they cried, and the father asked with tears in his eyes: You are a monk, what should I do with your mother?
The mother choked up and said, "If you want to become a monk, we will sever the mother-son relationship."
His wife, Shi Qianyu, couldn't accept her husband's decision to leave home, crying and asking: Is it because I'm not virtuous enough, and you can't feel happiness in your marriage?

Huang Yuanshen shook his head: I am destined to convert to Buddhism in this life. The son and daughter also couldn't understand Huang Yuanshen's crazy moves, when the son was 13 years old and the daughter was just 9 years old, one in junior high school and the other in elementary school.
The two children, realizing that they were going to lose their father, hugged their mother and wept bitterly.
Shi Qianyu and her in-laws joined forces to go on a hunger strike and forced Huang Yuanshen to comply. The three of them didn't eat or drink for three days, but they couldn't shake Huang Yuanshen's determination to become a monk.
Shi Qianyu and her in-laws finally realized that Huang Yuanshen's idea of becoming a monk had been decided, and they couldn't get it back, so they had to reluctantly agree.

At the end of December 1989, Huang Yuanshen went to Po Lam Monastery on Lantau Island, Hong Kong to cut his hair and become a monk. Since then, Huang Yuanshen's parents and wife only have tears in their eyes and only sadness in their hearts.
More than two months after Huang Yuanshen became a monk, his gray-haired parents visited him in the temple twice, but Huang Yuanshen was reluctant to meet. The old couple sat at the door for a day, and finally shed tears and helped each other to go.
Shi Qianyu went to the temple to find her husband three times, but Huang Yuanshen resolutely refused to meet, and asked the temple staff to persuade her not to come in the future.
Huang Yuanshen had little contact with his family at the temple. After graduating from junior high school, his son went to the United States to study in high school, and sometimes wrote letters to Huang Yuanshen, but he never replied.

In September 1990, Huang Yuanshen worshipped Master Shengyi, a senior monk in Southeast Asia, as his teacher, and took the Dharma name Yanshen. He quit smoking, drinking, and meat, and ate only two meals a day.
Huang Yuanshen works as a handyman in Baolin Monastery, getting up at 3:30 a.m. every day, doing morning classes at 4 a.m., having breakfast at 5 a.m., chanting sutras at 7 a.m., and planting vegetables and flowers in the monastery in the morning and afternoon.
In 1992, Huang Yuanshen asked a layman in the United States to visit his son at school. Knowing that the other party was commissioned by his father, his son Huang Jiliang cried very sadly.
In July 1993, Huang Jiliang returned to Hong Kong for the summer vacation and visited his father in the temple. Huang Yuanshen appeared in front of his son with a shaved head and a monk's robe.

The son cried so much that he couldn't speak, saying that his grandparents and mother missed him very much. Huang Yuanshen's face was calm, saying that he was a vegetarian in the temple, his health was better, and he didn't have insomnia, and he never answered his son's words head-on.
The abbot of Baofeng Monastery in Jing'an, Jiangxi Province, is a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the Buddhist Association of China.
Seeing that the condition of Baofeng Temple was not good, Huang Yuanshen donated a large amount of money to the temple and a van.

Huang Yuanshen's wife, Shi Qianyu, has never filed for divorce and is waiting for her husband to come back. Her in-laws and children persuaded her to break up, and Shi Qianyu cried and said: I only love him alone in my life, and I can't accept others. Hearing her words, her in-laws and children wept bitterly.
Although her husband is a monk, Shi Qianyu still plays the role of a good daughter-in-law and a good mother.

His son, Huang Jiliang, has been writing letters to his father, telling about his mother's determination not to marry for life. Shi Qianyu also wrote a letter to her husband, worried that her husband would not open her letter, so she sandwiched the letter she wrote with her son's letter.

In 2005, Huang Yuanshen left the temple under the call of family affection and lived in seclusion in the United States with his wife and son. The elderly parents were able to see Huang Yuanshen often, and they cried with joy.

During his seclusion in the United States, Huang Yuanshen returned to Hong Kong and traveled to the mainland many times. He wore an apricot yellow robe, gray cloth wrapped around his calves, black cloth shoes on his feet, and his hair and beard were cleanly shaved.
Huang Yuanshen's face is angular and his eyes are bright, but it is far from the image of "Huo Yuanjia" on TV. People who don't know the inside story stand in front of him, and they don't know that he is the actor of the smash hit "Huo Yuanjia" back then.

In recent years, there have been articles on the Internet saying that Huang Yuanshen was still vulgar in 2005, but in 2008, when Gan Keming, a reporter friend of "Fine Celebrities", was interviewing in Anhui, he accidentally saw Huang Yuanshen wearing a robe in Huacheng Temple in Jiuhua Mountain.
Huang Yuanshen traveled here, took a photo with Gan Keming, gave him the phone, and signed Gan Keming in the notebook "Settle with the encounter".
Gan Keming wrote an article about this experience and published it in the 2008 issue of the magazine "Literature and History Monthly".

Shi Qianyu has been very sad all her life, her husband left the house at a young age, and finally left the temple, but she still hasn't really returned to the family, she can't have a husband in the fireworks like other women.
Later, Gan Keming got in touch with Huang Yuanshen twice to learn about his little-known recent situation. Huang Yuanshen's parents have long since died, his son is in business in Guangdong, and his daughter and wife live in the United States.
