"Detective Conan: The Fish Shadow of Black Iron" is the 26th installment in the "Detective Conan" film series, directed by Jean Tachikawa, written by Takeharu Sakurai, music by Sugno Yugo, animation by TMS Entertainment, and set off the coast of Hachijojima, Tokyo.
Synopsis
The story takes place off Hachijojima, Tokyo, where the Pacific Buoy, a high-tech facility that connects police surveillance around the world, is about to be launched. In order to network with the area under Europol's jurisdiction, engineers from all over the world gather here. A new "black technology" based on facial recognition is also being tested......
Meanwhile, Conan and his party go whale watching on Hachijojima Island, and on the way Conan receives a call from Okiya (Shuichi Akai) who is informed that Europol members have been killed by Gin in Germany. Conan, who investigates the truth, infiltrates the "Pacific Buoy". Just as the engineers were preparing for the launch of the system, a case suddenly happened! A female engineer was kidnapped by the dark organization, and the USB flash drive containing the core technology in her hand also fell into the hands of the dark organization!
At this time, the sound of an unknown submarine approaching was heard underwater, which was terrifying, and a mysterious black shadow was also quietly approaching the gray plain......

Field-based
The production crew traveled to Hachijojima Island in the summer to collect materials on the spot. The collection lasted 3 days and 2 nights. All the members were divided into two groups and went to Hachijojima by boat and plane. Since it was the first time for all the people to land on Hachijojima, the first group to go around the island was responsible for exploring. The film crew meets at Hachijojima Airport to find a route where Conan can use skateboarding, taste Asuktaba ice cream, which is popular with the detective group, confirm the location, and cruise around the island.
Because whales are seen from December to March, the production team did not see whales. There is a scene in the sea in the film, so the production crew experienced diving. The production staff, who have a diving license, took photos that could be used as a reference. Tachikawa Jean also experienced underwater boosters and diving. The underwater scene at the end of the film was directed and filmed by the dive shop "Arabesque" on Hachijojima Island.
Ingenious paintings
Tachikawa drew the scene he wanted to make in a form similar to a manga storyboard, Sakurai Takeharu incorporated it into the script, and Tachikawa made an animated storyboard based on the script. When making the storyboard, director Tachikawa carefully calculated the time, so the length of the storyboard was very close to the duration of the feature film. But it also makes editing difficult.
The sense of rhythm and the pause of the performance are also taken into account by the director and the performance team. Binga has a fighting scene, which uses a Latin fighting style and uses foot skills, so Tachikawa Jean designed his hairstyle as a furrow braid. Binga's appearance was first drawn by Tachikawa in the style he envisioned, and then Aoyama Gomasa decided on the design draft, and his hair color was graded, and his facial features were designed as "like a character who can appear in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure".
There are many scenes moving in the sea, so there are many shots of painting. In the film, Aoyama Gomasa is responsible for 10 scenes of the original painting, and the characters involved include Belmode, Gin, Akai, Bourbon, Gray Plain, and Conan. In addition, he also drew a shot of Xiaolan and Gray Plains. In response to the plot of the love comedy in the water, Gomasa Aoyama did not draw the original picture, but drew a storyboard. Normally, Aoyama Gomasa goes to draw the shot he wants to draw after seeing the storyboard, but at the request of Tachikawa Jean, Aoyama Gomasa also painted the original paintings of Gin and Belmode.
In the final scene, the starry sky is shining brightly, showing an impression similar to hope, which is the idea of Tachikawa Jean to join. The original composition of the shot of Ashbara lying down was from Conan's point of view, but Aoyama later revised the composition to make it "more like looking at the audience."
In order to ensure the consistency of the painting style, the painting supervisor corrects the painting in paper form, and the painting supervision assistant is responsible for supervising and correcting the digital painting documents, and does everything possible to make the film look good.
Heartwarming
When making the soundtrack for the film, Kanno first set out to create a theme music that would convey the sheer scale of the sea. The work of making the picture and making the music went hand in hand. In order to capture the feelings, atmosphere, and emotions of each scene, Sugano asked the production crew to create a "storyboard video" that connected the storyboards and added temporary lines. He sets out to work from two perspectives: looking at the big picture and focusing on a scene up close. It took about 3 months from the time Kanno received the job offer to the time he submitted the demo.
In addition, when discussing the music, the director asked for a song like the theme song of the organization when Gin appeared. It was also suggested that there were too many tracks to create a suspenseful atmosphere, so Sugano seized the moment in the film from tense to slightly relaxed, and improvised comical tracks.
The casting of the film's dubbing was decided after negotiations between the recording director and the producer. For the casting of the "Pacific Buoy" dubbing lineup, Tachikawa entrusted it to the production committee after explaining the age group, the general feeling of the voice, and which performances have more scenes. Atsumi Tanesaki is determined by Jean Tachikawa. Regarding the conditions for determining other voice actors, Tachikawa asked for a level where "the audience can know who it is just by hearing the voice".
The post-recording script of the film is as thick as a dictionary, about 5 times thicker than the TV drama script, and the way the lines are written is completely different from the TV drama script. Kazuki Sawamura didn't understand how to read it, so he tried it repeatedly. Kazuki Sawamura was instructed by the director and other production staff on the speed of speech and the "basics of the basics" while recording. Sawamura believes that Yosuke Makino's job is to achieve a balance between the whole and the whole, so he added a corresponding feeling to the interpretation.
During the recording process, Takayama Minami and the director discussed on the spot and revised some of the lines - for the scene where Ashibara encountered a crisis in the hotel, it was originally designed that Ashibara make a loud sound, but Emi Hayashihara gave the director the advice of "try not to make a sound" - if you make a loud noise, Ayumi, who is sleeping in the same room as Ashibara, will wake up and witness it, and Ayumi will also be in danger. Respecting the opinions of the actors, the dialogue between Conan and Gray Yuan in the water has changed a lot compared to the storyboard stage, which is nearly 1 minute longer.
On March 29, 2023, the recording event of the film was held at the Maxell Shinagawa Water Park Aquarium, and Kazuki Sawamura appeared. At the event, Kazuki Sawamura recorded the scene where Makino first met with Conan, Kuroda Guard, and others to introduce himself, and the scene where the new technology test began at the Pacific buoy.
