The Inner Ring West Line (South Section) of Fancheng Wolong Avenue Section of the Ring Road Acceleration Reconstruction Project starts from the south of Dengcheng Avenue in the north, along Wolong Avenue to Wolong Bridge, with a total length of about 5.16 kilometers, and is constructed in the way of "main line viaduct + ground auxiliary road", with a length of 4.88 kilometers for the main line viaduct.

Among them, Yunxing Interchange (Wolong Avenue and Xiangjiang Avenue Interchange) is the largest double-ring alfalfa leaf interchange in Hubei Province, and it is also the largest full interchange in our city, the ground layer of the interchange is the ground level crossing, the second layer is the east-west elevated, the third layer is the north-south elevated, 8 steering ramps are completed in the air in all directions, and 2 up and down bridge ramps.

The construction of Yunxing Interchange has realized the full interconnection between east and west and north and south, reaching Dengcheng Avenue in the north, Xiangcheng in the south, Erguang Expressway in the west, and Dongjin New District and Ring Expressway in the east along the inner ring road.

At present, the second phase of the ring line speed improvement project is about to open to traffic, and Xiangyang will become the second city in the province to have a fast and complete "inner and outer ring road system", with a high-speed outer ring and a fast ring line inside.

The ring line speed improvement project is constructed in two phases, of which the first phase of the ring line has a total investment of 3.446 billion yuan, with a total length of about 15.39 kilometers, spanning Dongjin New District, High-tech Zone and Xiangzhou District, and the project has built the world's largest weight gear rack rotary cable-stayed bridge above the second largest marshalling station in Asia - Xiangbei marshalling station, with a maximum rotating weight of 32,000 tons for a single tower, and the whole line has been officially opened to traffic on September 11, 2023.

The second phase of the ring line speed improvement project is a provincial and municipal key project, and is a key node in Xiangyang urban area to build an urban skeleton road network of "one axis, three rings and nine radiations", and the project will be fully started on April 7, 2022, spanning four urban districts of Xiangcheng District, Fancheng District, High-tech Zone, and Dongjin New District, and is closely connected with the first phase of the ring line speed transformation project. The total investment of the project is about 10.542 billion yuan, including a total of 5 sections, namely the Inner Ring North Line, the Inner Ring West Line, the Inner Ring South Line, the Inner Ring to Xiangyang East Railway Station Connecting Line, and the Inner Ring to Xiangyang Airport Connecting Line, mainly through the construction of viaducts and tunnels for rapid transformation, with a total length of about 29.34 kilometers, 14 interchange nodes, 20 upper and lower bridge ramps and 4 pedestrian bridges. The main line viaduct of the high-speed rail section of the Inner Ring South Line has been opened to traffic for trial operation on February 7, 2024.

After the completion of the ring road project, the scale of the expressway network in the central urban area will reach about 200 kilometers (including expressways and expressways), and the layout and structure of the skeleton road network of "one axis, three rings and nine shots" will be further improved, and the level of internal and external expressway will be significantly improved.

After the completion of the second phase of the ring line project, it will basically form a fast ring line connecting Xiangcheng, Fancheng, Xiangzhou and Dongjin, and basically realize the goal of "10 minutes on the expressway, 30 minutes within the ring and 40 minutes in the central urban area".

For example, from Xiangcheng Wolong Bridge to Xiangyang Airport, it takes 50 minutes to use Huancheng South Road - Dongjin Avenue - Lumen Avenue - Xiangyang Avenue - Airport Road to the east, and after the completion of the second phase of the ring road, you can use Wolong Avenue - Dali Avenue - Xiangyang Avenue - Airport Road to the north, which only takes 30 minutes.

Precautions for elevated driving

According to the requirements of the traffic management department, heavy and medium-sized trucks, motorcycles, non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians are prohibited from passing on the elevated highway, and motor vehicles carrying explosives, flammable and explosive chemicals, as well as highly toxic and radioactive dangerous goods are prohibited. In order to meet the needs of intra-city logistics, light trucks are passable.

After opening, drive on the ring line, first, pay attention to the speed limit signs along the line, and do not speed;

Second, there are many entrances and exits along the line, so you need to plan the route reasonably before traveling, and choose the nearest entrance and exit in combination with real-time road conditions.

Third, only part of the ramps will be built in the near future, and only part of the ramps will be built according to the advance notice signs to avoid accidents caused by the wrong vehicles.

Speed limit for each stage

The speed limit of the Inner Ring North Line, the Inner Ring South Line (Panggong Section), and the Xiangyang Airport Link Line is 60km/h;

The speed limit of the Inner Ring West Line, the Inner Ring South Line (Dongjin Section), and the connecting line of Xiangyang East Station is 80km/h.

The speed limit is mainly affected by two aspects, one is that the alignment of individual sections of the road is limited by land use, and the turning radius is slightly smaller; the other is that the line network is dense, the demand for entering and exiting the main line is larger, and the spacing between entrances and exits is limited, which can only meet the requirements of the 60km/h specification.

For example, on the Inner Ring North Line, the land use conditions in the bridge section and the Mayflower section of the Xiangbei marshalling station are limited, and the linear index can only meet the design speed of 60km/h, and in order to avoid frequent changes in the speed limit, the whole line of the north line adopts 60km/h.

For example, the Panggong section of the Inner Ring South Line has a dense network along the line, and the traffic demand for arrival and departure is large, so it is necessary to set up more entrances and exits, limit the spacing between entrances and exits, and the design speed should be 60km/h.

The conditions along the Inner Ring West Line, the Dongjin Section of the Inner Ring South Line and the high-speed rail connection line are good, and the design speed is 80km/h.

Subsequent changes require the traffic police department to comprehensively study and judge the operation status after the trial operation.
