Beijing, September 14 (China News Network) -- At the 28th Beijing International Book Fair on the 14th, the Commercial Press and Oxford University Press jointly held a new book launch conference to launch the "Selected English-Chinese-Chinese-English Dictionary" (5th Edition) and "Oxford Academic English Dictionary" (English-Chinese Bilingual Edition).

As early as the 1980s, Robert Birchfield, then editor-in-chief of oxford dictionaries, came to China to attend an academic conference and agreed to cooperate in the compilation and publication of the Selected English-Chinese-English Dictionary in an exchange with the Commercial Press, thus opening the successful cooperation between the Commercial Press and Oxford University Press for more than 40 years. This dictionary provides two-way query between English and Chinese, which is suitable for both Chinese to learn English and foreigners to learn Chinese. The Commercial Press and Oxford University Press are responsible for the preparation of Chinese-English and English-Chinese content, respectively.

In 1986, as soon as the dictionary was launched, it was welcomed by learners at home and abroad and became a best-selling product. After four editions, 35 million copies have been sold so far. The 5th edition continues the scale and framework of the previous edition, with a significant update of 40% revisions. The increase in revenue reflects the characteristics of the times, such as gamification (gamification), quantitative easing (quantitative easing), cyberbullying (cyberbullying) and so on. At the same time, the original content was comprehensively revised, so that the accuracy of interpretation and translation was further improved. This new "Selected English-Chinese-Chinese-English Dictionary" (5th edition), with its exquisite and practical characteristics and excellent quality, will bring powerful help to readers at home and abroad for the exchange and learning of Chinese and English.

If the Selected English-Chinese-English Dictionary (5th Edition) is a new generation of traditional brands, the Oxford Academic English Dictionary (English-Chinese Bilingual Edition) launched at the same time is a new development and the only learning English dictionary specifically for academic needs, which has won the British Council's "Learning Resource Innovation Award". This dictionary is designed to meet the needs of readers to learn advanced, to help readers use English as a medium, learn the professional knowledge of various subjects, and truly upgrade English from "for me to learn" to "for my use".

To compile this dictionary, Oxford University Press created an academic English corpus of 85 million words covering all disciplines in the life sciences, physical sciences, social sciences and humanities.
