The length of life has a lot to do with drinking? A survey of 11,558 drinkers finally revealed the answer

Many people have the habit of drinking alcohol for a long time, but different people have different amounts of alcohol, but in the eyes of ordinary people, only a large amount of alcohol will cause harm to the body, and a small amount of alcohol will not.

Some people also believe that a small amount of alcohol can dilate blood vessels, and when blood vessels are better, the body will be healthier, but is this really the case?

2023年10月2日,来自湖北中部战区总医院的研究团队在 BMC Public Health 杂志发表题为“Association between daily alcohol consumption and serum alpha klotho levels among U.S. adults over 40 years old: a cross-sectional study”的文章。 该研究发现在 40 岁以上的成年人中,每日饮酒量与血清 α−klotho (一种抗衰老蛋白)水平呈负相关。

The study selected 50,588 participants from the NHANES database from 2007 to 2016 and excluded them based on age, disease status, and lack of data, ultimately including 11,558 people in the study. After adjusting for age, sex, and ethnicity, the correlation between alcohol intake and serum α-klotho levels in Model 1 remained significantly negative. After additional adjustments for marital status, educational attainment, and smoking status, the correlation between model 2 alcohol intake and serum α-klotho levels remained significantly negative.

The results suggest that alcohol consumption can induce aging by regulating serum α-klotho levels.

So, those who drink alcohol for a long time, don't make excuses for drinking, in fact, no matter what kind of alcohol, no matter how much you drink, as long as you drink it for a long time, it will have extremely adverse effects on health.

1. People who drink alcohol for a long time will age faster

In fact, everyone has this feeling, the longer you drink, the older you look, the main reason is that alcohol can damage the health of multiple organs.

This, coupled with the study from the Central Theater General Hospital, showed that drinking alcohol can induce aging by regulating serum α-klotho levels, which explains why people who drink alcohol look older at the biomolecular level.

2. People who drink alcohol for a long time are prone to liver cirrhosis and liver cancer

The metabolism of alcohol has to pass through the liver, long-term drinking, it is easy to lead to hypoxia of the liver, drinking alcohol is also easy to lead to alcoholic cirrhosis, and acetaldehyde, an intermediate metabolite of alcohol, can also lead to DNA mutations, which all lead to drinkers who are not only prone to liver cirrhosis, but also prone to liver cancer.

3. People who drink alcohol for a long time are prone to heart problems

Many people think that drinking alcohol will dilate blood vessels, but as everyone knows, the effect of alcohol on blood vessels shows a biphasic effect, which starts with relaxation and soon turns into contraction.

Therefore, long-term drinking is more likely to lead to high blood pressure, and drinking alcohol can also interfere with the absorption of nutrients, including protein and vitamins, which can easily lead to alcoholic cardiomyopathy in drinkers.

4. People who drink alcohol for a long time are more likely to suffer from cerebrovascular diseases

Long-term drinking has a great impact on the brain, which is easy to induce alcoholic encephalopathy, and drinking alcohol can also easily induce cerebrovascular diseases, including cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage.

Don't make any excuses for drinking, the so-called "drinking can dilate blood vessels" is completely a lie from the winery, as a doctor, I want to tell everyone that if you want to live longer, it is best not to drink at all.

Since drinking alcohol is so harmful to health, the question is, when is the best time to quit drinking?

What I want to tell you is that it is not too late to quit drinking no matter when, if you quit drinking before the body has an abnormal disease, it is equivalent to reining in the precipice, and the benefits are greater at this time.

Of course not, if the body is diseased, if you don't quit drinking, alcohol will be more harmful to the body, and at this time, it will lead to a worse quality of life and a shorter lifespan.

If it is so important to quit drinking, how can you quit drinking successfully?

Be sure to stay away from the drinking environment, and at the same time stay away from people who often come to you for drinking, the process of quitting alcohol is very difficult and long, and there is a possibility of repeated failures, to build confidence, you can achieve the ultimate goal of quitting alcohol by gradually reducing the amount of alcohol you drink, but quitting alcohol should be scientific.
