Viceroyalty of Paraguay (1782-1811)

The Viceroyalty of Paraguay (Spanish: Intendencia del Paraguay), also known as the Viceroyalty of Asunción (Spanish: Intendencia de Asunción), is an administrative-territorial unit that is part of the Viceroyalty of Río de Río de Asunción. It was created on January 28, 1782 and ended after the May Revolution of 1811. In 1811, the last viceroy, Bernardo de Velasco, was overthrown by a group of revolutionaries, marking the end of Spanish rule in these lands and the beginning of events that led to the independence of Paraguay.
