After Ma Ying-jeou's visit to the mainland, the KMT's top brass set off a wave of visits to the mainland. Former chairman Hong Xiuzhu led a delegation to visit Shenzhen on 20 July, and Vice Chairman Xia Liyan and League President Fu Kunqing have both set dates for their visits to the mainland. Taiwan media reported that Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun and other high-ranking officials will visit the mainland with Fu Kunqing and his entourage, but Zhu Lilun has set two conditions for visiting the mainland, which also reveals Zhu Lilun's true colors.
According to Taiwan media reports, Fu Kunqing will visit the mainland on April 25, and Wu Siyao, a high-ranking member of the Democratic Progressive Party, also revealed that Zhu Lilun, Hao Longbin and other high-level officials will visit the mainland, and the Kuomintang did not make it clear that Zhu Lilun will participate in the trip. However, Qiu Yi said that Zhu Lilun had set two conditions, and he would only visit the mainland if the mainland agreed.
First, he asked the mainland to allow him to discuss "one China, each with its own interpretation" in a public and formal forum, and second, after his visit to the mainland, the mainland should not invite leaders of other political parties on Taiwan Island to visit the mainland.
What is the difference between the so-called "one China, each with its own interpretation" and the "two-state theory", Qiu Yi even said that this is the "two-state theory". Although Zhu Lilun is the chairman of the Kuomintang, his experience is complicated. As a politician, Zhu Lilun certainly knows what to say and what not to say, but he still came up with "one China, each with its own expression."
To be honest, the only difference between Zhu Lilun's move and Lai Tsai's ilk is that the DPP is directly expressing "Taiwan independence," while Zhu Lilun is making an implicit statement; as chairman of the Kuomintang, Zhu Lilun naturally knows that the Kuomintang recognizes the "consensus of '92," so isn't the "one China, each with its own interpretation" proposed by him running counter to the Kuomintang?
Moreover, after Tsai Ing-wen of the Democratic Progressive Party came to power, the Kuomintang was much worse than before, and Zhu Lilun, like most Taiwan politicians, hoped for peace in the Taiwan Strait, regional stability, and the status quo, but this does not mean that these people hope to see cross-strait reunification. At the top level of Taiwan's political parties, only Ma Ying-jeou and Hong Hsiu-zhu are explicitly in favor of reunification.
Ma Ying-jeou's visit to the mainland at the beginning of this month attracted great attention from both sides of the strait, and he led a young man from Taiwan to visit the mainland and was received by the mainland's high-level leaders, so that the young people of Taiwan could understand a real and powerful mainland, which was also conducive to cross-strait youth exchanges, and at the same time eased the tense situation in the Taiwan Strait. After returning to Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou warned Lai Qingde that he hoped that he would abide by the "Constitution," adhere to the "one-China principle," recognize the "consensus of '92," and not follow the "Taiwan independence" line.
On 20 April, Hong Xiuzhu led a delegation to visit Shenzhen, and while visiting Shenzhen's high-tech enterprises, she said that Taiwan youths should be allowed to come to the mainland to see the mainland's development and strength, and at the same time, she expressed the hope that she could see national reunification as soon as possible.
It is reported that in July, Hong Xiuzhu will lead a Taiwan youth group to visit Zhejiang. Compared with Ma Ying-jeou and Hong Hsiu-chu, two former KMT chairmen, two elderly men in their 70s who are still campaigning for cross-strait reunification, and Zhu Lilun, the current chairman of the KMT, deliberately set many conditions during his visit to the mainland, and these are the kind of conditions that the mainland will never agree to, and this is obviously a lack of sincerity.
But in the face of the United States, Zhu Lilun has a different attitude. On April 20, the US Senate passed a $95 billion foreign aid bill, including $61 billion for Ukraine, $26 billion for Israel, and $8 billion for Asia-Pacific allies, a considerable part of which is for the Taiwan authorities.
Zhu Lilun made a public speech, thanking and sighing at the US aid, and hoped that the world would pay attention to Taiwan's economic development, rather than the security of the Taiwan Strait. Like the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and other political parties on the island, Zhu Lilun is "grateful" to US aid, and his attitude toward the mainland and toward the United States can be seen from Zhu Lilun's position.
Zhu Lilun's diplomatic philosophy is "pro-American, peace-oriented, and friendly to Japan," and he and the KMT's top brass have done the same. As for the current intensive visit to the mainland by the top leaders of the Kuomintang, we must not expect too much, because most of these people just hope for peace in the Taiwan Strait and maintain the status quo, and they may not necessarily be in favor of reunification.
Zhu Lilun's possible visit to the mainland is more in the hope that he can reap benefits, such as not allowing leaders of other political parties on the island to visit the mainland. But obviously Zhu Lilun looked up to himself and looked down on the mainland. The mainland will not agree to Zhu Lilun's so-called "conditions", and it does not matter if the mainland comes to welcome it. The mainland's internal policy toward Taiwan is to unite with the "reunification" faction, crack down on the "independence" faction, and welcome any patriotic personages to come to the mainland for exchanges.
